It has 2x range than normal sonar but slower time in-between pulses and can be damaged and repaired

#

Also takes up a lot of space

Potentially good idea but it if you wanted it remotely close to realism you'd need to put it outside the sub, and that would be a pain and a half in the ass to repair

#

Personally I think it could be a great idea but I'm not sure it's justified for gameplay, unless you want to force people to go outside to repair after every major enemy encounter

Eh yea true

#

Mabe when it gets hit it adds a huge spike of electricity and messes with the sonar display

(Electricity to damage the junction boxes)

Make it so you need a supercapacitor to run it, with massive power draw

Real sonar is intergraded with this

Perhaps acceptable as a feature of some slow ships. High mobility is already strong and you don't even need to ping sonar much (once every 5 seconds is very comfortable for example); bigger sonar would just make zooming easier. Wise wersa, slow ships would find it double edged, due to mobs taking interest in it.
