With this feature you can inquire about the server from the host. If the server crashed, they can ask why it crashed. If they are intrigued by the server, they can directly ask the host. If the server got hacked by people and made them be kicked out, they can ask why they were kicked out. If they got banned, the banned user can ask why they were banned and attempt to have the ban appealed instead of putting out their anger in general. History has taught us that communication is key for people to not be confused.

Why isnt this in the game yet?
Its such a key thing.

Ah whatever this wont fly off, and i have no hope it does.

You kinda need to connect to communicate

#

Also if the server crashed the server wont be up

#

You also dont want people you ban and kick to spam you if they are feeling a little salty

#

thats stupid

Banning someone from the server refuses connections between the two

tawdry bloom
#

No making the server owner a better person.

woven obsidian
tawny blaze
#

not yours

#

If they want to have an avenue for appeals they can

#

But these are player hosted servers, not businesses

tawdry bloom
#

What the fuck are you talking about?

tawny blaze
#

What I'm saying is having the ban button not ban someone is silly

#

If someone can continue to spam you post ban

tawdry bloom
#

If you get banned, you cant ask why you were banned.

#

Its just one message.

#

and you cant talk to them.

#

sucks even more if the server is good.

tawny blaze
#

It does suck yeah

#

try and reach out to them via steam

#

if they accept then they might be willing to listen

tawdry bloom
#

How will you?

#

theres no button to reach via steam.

#

you cant even know who hosts the server until you join.

tawny blaze
#

There is via recent players

tawdry bloom
#

via recent players suck

tawny blaze
#

It doesnt suck

tawdry bloom
#

one time ive found a very good guy i want to friend

tawny blaze
#

Its just not always supported in all games

tawdry bloom
#

i check via recent players, he isnt there

tawny blaze
#

Unfortunate

But this will make people's easier. Imagine you are a country, and next to you is another country. You want to go to another place that your country owns but theres no airport or roads that lead there. So you must go to the other country which has the infrastructur that lets you go there. You paid taxes to your country and yet they dont build infrastructur. Should your country be the one making your life easier? Or the other country you dont pay taxes to?

tawny blaze
#

This isnt a country

#

this is a peer to peer server

tawdry bloom
#

I am gonna fucking kill you.

tawny blaze

But yeah while I disagree with the banned users being able to still menace you post ban entirely.
The other thing would be okay but might not be feasible.

#

Im not a network engineer though

#

but I feel like constantly sending updates via messages without connecting would probably cause issues

tawdry bloom
#

You can change your name in server browser to a message, you join the server. Then quickly leave. your name which is a message will still be relayed to the server.

tawny blaze
#

Thats technically joining the server yeah

#

You'd still have to join

tawdry bloom
#

This is what most people do to send a message to the owner that they have no contacts.

#

you join but you leave.

tawny blaze
#

You could probably make it join but not download mods until you confirm

tawdry bloom
tawny blaze
#

Because its networking stuff

tawdry bloom
#

i keel your birdie

#

i cook birdie and eat birdie

tawny blaze
#

Either way I think youd need to separate chats for this

#

While host could see dead chat via console iirc

#

They couldnt respond directly without it seeming out of place for users online

tawdry bloom
#

and he didnt even need to connect

tawny blaze
#

Thats very dodgy

tawdry bloom
#

#

or more

#

idk its been so long.

tawny blaze
#

I'm looking into it, bad thing to add it in the first place but seems they removed and admitted it was a bad idea even if not intended for bad reasons

inland bone
#

this leaves a lot of room for possible exploits, also makes the logic for banned way more complicated, since you now have to allow every connection, but do different things if they are banned or not, instead of just diallowing all connections from banned players

#

just add the option to grab the steam profile of who is hosting the server instead

tawny blaze
#

Yeah that would be much better

upbeat lava
#

who argues and gets heated about "banned players shouldn't be able to message the host" if it's not because they wish they could yap to the host of a server they got banned from

#

that said, a way to message the host without having to add and message them on steam would be nice

#

a "soft connect" where you load into the lobby and can send messages to spectator chat could provide this, i think

tawdry bloom
#

Who are you to accuse me of that?

#

Ive seen plenty of people in general talk about shit host banning them.

upbeat lava
#

can't blame me for connecting dots

#

maybe don't be rude to people for no reason

#

my advice

tawdry bloom
#

said the person saying i am salty cus i keep getting banned.

#

I don't like people accusing me. Nobody likes themselves being accused.

#

If somebody says, hey theres a problem about the X. We need to fix the X. Someone gonna come along and say oh you love Y.

upbeat lava
#

very stupid analogy

tawdry bloom
#

Okay.

#

you win

#

tata

upbeat lava
#

there's a difference between calling out someone for being rude in a blunt way and just being an asshole

#

i'm also not jumping to some crazy conclusion

tawdry bloom
upbeat lava
#

lol

#

okay

tawdry bloom
#

Heres a way to solve this what about I send you the post that made me think about this idea?

#

That way you can stop accusing me for being a person that is salty because they got banned.
