#PUCS Engineer Buff

Now I am not saying "return the PUCS to it's original state" what I am saying is that the PUCS feels useless for final tier talent item. My idea is to have the Ph.D in Nuclear Physics talent give a boost to movement speed while wearing the PUCS enough to make it worth wile for an engineer to wear it. It can also be a walking speed boost and not boosting swimming speed. It could also instead provide a damage resistance buff for an engineer instead of a movement increase, like more hazard resistance.

#

oh wow.. seems people hate suit wearers

#

Mechanics speed boost clearly acceptable though

gentle swan
#

Would also point out how it is sold by Coalition outposts while the Mech isn't sold at all

#

AND

#

it also a final tier item

vapid prism
#

dw about it, for now it's just 3 people

#

they probably only read the title

gentle swan
#

yeah

lethal jolt
#

It would make sense, since suit is clearly made for on land activity too

gentle swan
#

well the buff can do that for an engineer

lethal jolt
#

I think, making more damage resistances is kinda.... boring imo, walking speed is a lot more better due to how sluggish the suits are

No PUCS slowdown mod

lethal jolt
#

People forget that being fast is incredibly good thing to have

#

Hence why i adore and hate slipsuit BaroDev

The PUCS should be the ultimate choice for dealing with hazards.
Being extremely slow on land is honestly a major debuff for the PUCS suit.
It should be like a lite, hazard version of the MECH suit; Built-in servos to help with land-travel, though not of much use in water.

I knew Mr.House would be right

The fact they nerfed the PUCS' walking speed during the diving suit nerfs will always baffle me

indigo aurora
#

could also make it powered by batteries

#

and without them it walks normal suit speed

gentle swan
#

that be interesting

indigo aurora
#

make em last like 20 minutes

#

so it's not tedious

#

but is something you have to manage

If they hadnt nerfed walking speed it would just be too good alltogether. Really not sure where they're going with the PUCS. Feels like easy decisions aren't taken regarding balance and I'm not sure who they are scared to upset by making the PUCS a land-based powerhouse while letting the slipsuit be the water MVP.

If the PUCS weren't a L8 skill, it wouldn't be that deep, but since it is, it's something worth complaining about

#

Like, the exoskeleton is clearly the best choice out of all the suits.
Sure, it runs on rods, but the benefits heavily outweigh the downsides

#

The PUCS being faster on ground would make more sense since it's a hazard suit BaroDev

#

Not saying it has to be faster than a person, just somewhat equal to normal run speed

#

(I still find the PUCS being purchasable dumb)

Imo the walking speed is not the problem but rather the protection it gives. My take would be to leave the speed as it is rn and up the resistances to be on par or slightly lower than Abyss diving suit (maybe increase its protection a bit too?) so that both still have their uses. PUCS for overall protection against hazards with a reasonable movement penalty and Abyss for deeper diving and protection to attacks but still the slowest

modest crypt
#

It should be faster to get to the hazards faster, and it should prioritize radiation and fire res over actual protection imo

^This tbh

Let me walk through the flames

Let them know i am coming for them

gentle swan

The damage resistance idea was more of adding to the half-life reference, specifically half-life 2

neat gyro
#

It gives the suit a unique identity and fulfills a role people would use a lot

#

For all the late-game engineers that spend almost all their time on the ship, having this suit which boosts their resistances and lets them run around to fix shit quicker would be great to work towards -

#

But unfortunately the suit got its speed nerfed along with all the other diving suits for some reason - and now it is left in an awkward place, which I think goes for most suits at the moment If I'm being honest.

gentle swan
#

yeah the issue is that it was "too good" in some players opinions and it would be nice if the nerf doesn't apply to those with Ph .D in Nuclear Physics

#

that way it's worth going down that tree rather then a reactor boost

indigo aurora
#

speed is actually super valued it's insane

#

the number of times i've died cause my slow ass diving suit wouldn't let me climb the ladder away from the husks

gentle swan
#

yeah but that should be a problem for those without a PHD

The engineer doesn't need to hear this, he's a highly trained professional!

indigo aurora
#

engineer! get away from the reactor
someone get him out of there!
it's not- it's not shutting down!

burnt canopy
#

yeah. engineers should have naked walk speed in PUCS but maybe nerf PUCS damage resistance lest we turn engineer into more of a tank than it already is.

modest crypt
#

If it weren't for the fact the PUCS uses a combat diving suit and alien materials, I'd agree

burnt canopy
#

Maybe PUCS should have its pressure tolerance dramatically reduced, say, down to 2.5km?

This way it's a sort of pressure resistance.

#

i presume the amount of pressure affects time to death

modest crypt
#

If it has anything under you pop just as fast with it as you would without it

#

It'd be better off to trade walk speed for swim speed imo

#

That being said, the pressure inside the sub takes a while to get as bad as the pressure outside the sub, so 2.5k could maybe work 🤷

neat gyro
#

I'm always going to support the idea of it being a powerful 'dry' suit like the HEV that inspired it

#

I feel like that would give it a unique place in the game and would have enough utility to get it out of its currently awkward position, especially after the catastrophic suit nerfs

burnt canopy
#

Know what would be badass for PUCS?

Automagically turns on a sonar beacon while oxygen is being used.

As an emergency function to save the wearer by alerting their team ?
