It does somewhat adjust to your cursors position, vertically, albeit very discreetly
it moves when you aim by pressing right mouse button by default.
in most cases you won't will be caring about your cursor position and head of your character will ended up looking like they have a broken neck or seizure while you managing inventory etc.
can we please
make it so that
the player tries to position their body towards where they are aiming when right click is held

I hate it when I try to go up to a wall and try to axe it down but my player fucking turns around for no good reason
forces me to use ancient weapon more than I have to
but then when im threatened at gun point for being too silly i cant pretend to brb as i prepare 4 syringes of fentanyl to O P I A T E C H A R G E
would be better if your character turn around and move his head only if you press aim button at any time, so you could move your head without anything, less pain to aim melee weapons in water and you wouldn't constantly look behind while managing inventory

I've never heard of this issue before
The body is set towards the direction you are aiming
The only time this gets weird is when using guns or objects and the head is not properly aligned with where you are aiming or consuming something
It's definitely a problem when swimming with the boarding axe
after melee attack there is a small time gap, where you don't aim (fix of the issue of not being able to turn around on land when constantly attacking with melee) and it gets weird when you attack upwards or downwards and swim in any direction
