You can avoid impact damage and stun by grabbing a ladder
Why not add some handles specifically for this?
I think it's fun mechanic. When ship is sinking captain could say something like "impact in 3 2 1" so crew could find nearest handle, grab it and avoid damage

Easy fix; don't bind it to the main interaction button.
