It feels kinda underwhelming ||especially if you consider that it evolves into thalamus|| so why won't we add some spice to it. Make it able to rewire your power grid and control not only doors but also turrets, batteries (make them explode), engine (stop it), nav temrminal (use it to control sub and make it sink) and much more.

Ballast flora already can change sub movement both x and y planes
How it does so in x plane?

also would have added that maybe it needs some kind of spawn chance buff as i completed campaign without seeing it once
I do think there's a lot more that could take place rather than only affecting one system on the entire ship
Maybe making your turrets go haywire and shoot anything that moves
Like how actual thalamus wrecks work ?
Maybe even spawning terminal cells in your ballast, that'd be rad
Ballast flora lives on two extremes, extremely easy for experienced players and extremely stressful for new players
Your suggestion seems to imply that it can control those devices if it reaches them correct?
This will cause no issue to experienced players as it won't live that long
And frankly if it gets that bad
You are probably not going to recover the ship that easily
You only get ballast flora while pumping in water while going through it
Also on multiplayer you might not even notice it before its gone aside from someone mentioning it
I'm frankly a careless driver because its funny, so I've seen it quite a few times in our current campaign
Just it never lasts long
As its predictable and slow to grow
Predictable as in, you see yourself go through it on sonar so check the ballast tanks and immediatelly deal with it if needed before it can get out of control.
i suppose i could add a few ballast flora gimmicks to my thalamus rework 
You could change it to be more of a Pest. Hiding and cloging vents. It can regrow when not killed entirely.
To scale it to the Player skill it should regrow aggressive and impact more System when it was killed effectively the last time (if it survived and is able to regrow that is).
It eventually spreading through the vents and cutting off oxygen would be really spooky and awesome
maybe it should be bale to use vents as a "fast travel" option
