#Shortcuts to access "quick holders"

Grabbing and putting away stuff into very common containers should be a lot easier.

Things like fire-extinguishers can be annoying to grab quickly, oxygen-tanks, stuff in weapon displays...

Ctrl-clicking (or shift-click to match the editor) on a container while holding something should put that object into it.

  • including a toolbelt, backpack, or similar items (if the container has such a slot). Or crates too

Ctrl-clicking on a container while having nothing in your hands should grab the first item in it

  • only applicable to "tag:quickgrab" containers

Ctrl-clicking on a container while its full, and you are holding an item (you can deposit into it) will swap the items in the container

  • only applicable to "tag:quickgrab" containers

"tag: quickgrab"

  • fire-extinguisher
  • oxygen-tank
  • dive-suit (while holding OR wearing one would deposit, or could swap into a new one)

ALSO anything you can visually SEE what you would grab next:

  • ammunition shelf
  • railgun shelf
  • crate shelf

Note: Maybe instead of click it could be a button like G while hovering on a container,,, in which case pressing it without hovering on a container would just drop the thing you're holding?
Note 2: Holding 2 items (screwdriver + wire e.g.) just deposits both for consistency

(From a different thread) ( @wet pumice )

In Barotrauma controls are intentionally clunky. All the resources you need are right here, on the submarine, but juggling them can be tricky and you're scared of being caught with an inventory full of random crap, since that makes switching to a weapon/medical item/swapping an oxygen tank harder.

I don't think "aiming the mouse to drag something from the bottom left of the held UI to the extinguisher slot to put it away" gives the right vibe,,, considering its a quick access slot, its MEANT to hold an extinguisher. (hence this suggestion)

Similarly grabbing the first thing in a hurry, or throwing what you're holding into the locker... those are all generally quick acts you CAN do in a hurry. And having to finagle with the UI to do this just makes me annoyed not immersed

P.S. Some "Stowing away" could actually take time, like putting ON or taking off a dive suit could take a second or two giving back that feeling of PANICKED <faster, faster, faster, omg I have no tiiime> where the slight delay makes you feel even more panicked and worried you won't make it. This could still have a shortcut and work just fine

I wouldnt like this system since it interfers with controls

#

There is already a way to bypass UI part by making character interact with items inside the holder

#

So if anything this system would be better than having to press they additional key

#

Basically too much work for what can be done with 1 parameter already

if there is already a shortcut thats great (for part of it)

Meanwhile I'm here wishing reload hotkeys weren't a thing

wet pumice

Reload hotkeys carried me through the Barotraumatic + Dynamic Europa campaign on a T1 sub. But I guess in vanilla you can manage fine without them.

Its just I remember how much more stressful fights were (in a good way) before I realized I could just press a number

wet pumice
#

Not being able to quickly reload would make revolvers specifically feel much worse. But other guns deal enough damage in one clip, or whatever it happens to be.

spare mural
#

It would add another layer to combat though

#

How efficiently you could reload

wet pumice
#

True, true.

Like a dumbed down version of that one game I forget the name of

#

parasitic something

#

Endoparasitic

#

Its never gonna happen though

#

Could you imagine the uproar

wet pumice
#

Ah, yea.

#

People would probably be pretty split on this change.

#

I'm pretty split on this idea, and I'm just one person.

spare mural
#

Yeah

I love both of these ideas.

#

@spare mural I had the same experience!

One of the first things, that I modded into the game, was a bolt action rifle.

The balance/unbalance of having only a single shot, resulting in either high-alpha-damage or none, coupled with manual reloading, made it a lot of fun to use! : D

...Unfortunately I soon realised I could simply spam the number keys, and reload with superhuman speed. : 1

Edit: Clarity.

Yeah completely different feel

#

Its in my opinion, that ease of access doesn't necessarily mean good

wet pumice
#

At least give the security and the captain quick reload as part of their talents.

No BaroDev

#

I mean my favoured thing wont ever be reality so dont worry

wet pumice
#

But still, if it was, it would've been a cool buff to captain's ability to use revolvers efficiently.

I dunno
