Stealth creature idea

We currently have lots of creatures that fill different roles except for a stealth creature. You could argue that a black moloch fills that niche but it’s simply too big to hide.

What if there was a new creature that you could only detect with passive sonar like the black moloch but was a swarm style creature?

Maybe they could latch on to the sub and act as sort of a hive mind to strike all at once instead of one at a time.

I’d call them Lurkers to keep on theme of the “er” names like thresher, crawler, raptor, etc

Now that I think of it, they can be like those small things from alien ruins, they start to swarm and attach to submarine eating all power from grid very very fast, so you have to go outside (for outside interactions because we barely have them) or just a gang attack stealthy swarmers

Eddies of water can create an echo in Barotrauma. These creatures would have to be more water than water itself to stay invisible under active SONAR.

just seeing what looks like a glitch on sonar and then getting attacked because of it would be cool as hell

maybe make low maintenance cause sonar glitching too just to make it less obvious

we are just blocked by limitations of creature editor

Maybe a creature that camouflages as sonar flora, emitting the same sonar disruption and staying in place but when something comes close they attack

We have literal alien ruins and humans that can survive a hull breach kilometers underwater. It's not too surreal for whatever these lurkers are ... to be following physics completely unbeknownst to us

hell they may even be spectral entities

which would fit the paranormal vibe of eating power too

I imagine them acting like eldritch leeches that feed off of biomass or electricity. They’d be scarier if they went after other creatures/humans

If they don't interact with matter, other than maybe emitting some energy in the form of light and vibration as they move, they'd show up on passive.
But then you can't shoot them with conventional weapons.

Step 1: Make them have elements of ruin guardians

Step 2: Give them a passive cloaking-like shimmer when incorporeal

Step 3: Make their sound queue extremely distinct

like imagine getting swallowed by it then you put a bomb in it's stomach
