We currently have lots of creatures that fill different roles except for a stealth creature. You could argue that a black moloch fills that niche but it’s simply too big to hide.

What if there was a new creature that you could only detect with passive sonar like the black moloch but was a swarm style creature?

Maybe they could latch on to the sub and act as sort of a hive mind to strike all at once instead of one at a time.

I’d call them Lurkers to keep on theme of the “er” names like thresher, crawler, raptor, etc

Eddies of water can create an echo in Barotrauma. These creatures would have to be more water than water itself to stay invisible under active SONAR.

optionaly they could look like that random noize in a broken sonar

if you don't like invisibility thing

oh like sonar flora?

just seeing what looks like a glitch on sonar and then getting attacked because of it would be cool as hell

#

maybe make low maintenance cause sonar glitching too just to make it less obvious

like a current of water we already have

or somehting

They can just make either high pitch noise or be glowy in dark

like background fish?

because its better to have a surprise attack than "top left incoming"

what about crab like creature that sticks to walls untill sub is too close and you can only distinguish it from wall once it moves

Maybe a creature that camouflages as sonar flora, emitting the same sonar disruption and staying in place but when something comes close they attack

Sure, space ghost, I like that!

I could see them being weak to being 'overloaded' by a discharge coil too

#

causing them to be stunned for much longer and more corporeal

A sentient form of gravitational anomaly.

or that they need to become corporeal to feed

I imagine them acting like eldritch leeches that feed off of biomass or electricity. They’d be scarier if they went after other creatures/humans

If they don't interact with matter, other than maybe emitting some energy in the form of light and vibration as they move, they'd show up on passive.
But then you can't shoot them with conventional weapons.
