I have one story where I was sleeping and I shared a room with my sister we had one of those beds where you could pull another bed out from underneath it. So I sleep on the bottom bed while my sister slept on the top one. I was having trouble falling asleep one night like I keep waking up but not entirely. Then once I woke up but I couldn't move. So the way the bed is positioned is pushed up against one of the walls of the room and when I pull my bed out there is always a space between my bed and hers where I can see the space underneath her bed if I sleep on my left side. I was sleeping on my left side when I saw underneath my sister's bed a black shadow. It was just staring at me and I wished for it to go away but it wouldn't I tried screaming for my sister but nothing would come out and I could feel my tears fall down my face as I shut my eyes and tried to move a muscle. I was so scared that when I finally was able to break out a little yelp from my voice like my voice was barely coming back to me I was finally able to move. I just put the covers over my bed grabbed my phone played nice music and went to sleep. Did not turn around after that and afterward while we still had the bed after that incident I always put a blanket or something to cover the opening of that space. I had sleep paralysis twice more spread apart after that but I hate it it's so scary.

Sleep paralysis IS scary.
Did you know an excess of melatonin can, for some people, cause sleep paralysis? For me I get phantom feelings
My experience was so similar! I only experienced sleep paralysis once when I was around 8 years old, but I remember it so vividly to this day.
How old were you? I used to sleep in a bed like that at@my grandparents. I think your story is worse than something under the bed because you saw whatever it was so easily.
Oh i actually didn’t know that!
Yes i remember it like it was yesterday
Nite time is a real toss up for me
Me, too, as far as sleeping. Didn't know that abt the Melatonin. My daughter gets very bad sleep paralysis. I'll pass this info on to her.
The more you know
My boyfriend got sleep paralysis almost every single night at our old house. Now, new house, doesn’t happen at all. There was something super strange about that house. I have a story I’ll eventually post when I have more time
Sounds scary/interesting
We live in a house built by my husband's great-great grandfather in the 1870s. There's been lots of odd things happen, but I'll just give you a highlight.
I woke up because I thought I heard one of my sons getting sick in the bathroom across the hall. I went to check and when I opened the door I heard weirdly fast footsteps running away. I checked the bathroom and nobody was there. I checked on the boys and they were in heavy sleep. I quietly asked both if they were okay and they didn't stir. I heard the running in the hall again. I went all over the house. The doors were still chained. I never heard anyone go down the stairs, so an intruder wouldn't have been able to leave out of a second story window. I just accepted it was one of my husband's ancestors and went to lay awake for a few hours.
I was spending the night in a hotel in Oklahoma City that is rumored to be haunted. There are actually stories from NBA players who have been spooked by ghosts while staying there. The hotel was built in the early 1900s and is said to be haunted by the ghost of a maid called Effie. Legend says that Effie had an illicit relationship with the hotel’s founder, WB Skirvin. When it was discovered that she fell pregnant with his child, he locked her in a room on the top floor. Distraught, Effie plummeted from a window of the upper floor of the hotel. The hotel has an interesting history, all in all, having been known as a speakeasy during prohibition. It has also been the host of many famous and interesting faces through the decades. It was closed for over a decade, fell into disrepair, only to become an urban exploring hotspot before being completely renovated and reopened. Guests have reported unexplained noises, objects moving unexpectedly, and even being touched by something (or someone) unseen. As for me and my experience, I had a lovely evening including dinner at the hotel restaurant and an after-dinner drink in the piano bar. We went back to the room, settled in, and fell fast asleep with no problems. At some point in the night, I had a dream that someone was in the room, moving around. It was just this dark shadow, slowing going across the room. In my dream, I just watched it move. Then I woke up. When I awoke, the room was dark, but there was also a dark figure of a person literally standing beside the bed, right next to me. It was clearly a human form just standing there. I thought maybe I was still dreaming, at first, but I was too conscious, you know? It wasn’t like being in a dream state. I reached out to feel if anything was actually there. I grabbed onto what looked like this thing’s left arm and pulled on it. This thing fell onto the bed, right across my upper legs. I could literally feel the weight of this figure on me. I start to yell out and bolt upright in bed, trying to push this thing off of me. My SO wakes up in a panic, wondering what’s wrong, and the thing is gone. I almost (maybe) would have chalked it up as sleep paralysis, which I have never experienced, but… it seemed so real. And, aside from the hotel’s haunted history and other guests’ experience, my SO said he was hearing noises around the night as though someone was moving through the room. Maybe it was Effie? Maybe it was someone or something else… but I wasn’t able to fall asleep again that night until the sun started to rise and those little bits of light started coming in through the closed curtains.

"I just accepted that it was one of my husband's ancestors... AND WENT TO LAY AWAKE FOR A FEW HOURS." Yeah, I have 💯 been there. Rough night indeed! My story is pretty long so I'll have to share it in it's own thread but I'd have been scared for sure.
@maiden juniper that would be a story I would love to hear. Only happened to me once. I had reoccurring nightmare for years. Once I was finally stabbed, I experienced the paralysis, thought it was really happening. After several minutes my body felt like it was waking up. Like when your arm falls asleep, then you feel the prices when bllid flow starts again. It was entire body... Face, torso, legs, atrm etc.Even my head was tingly. The great news is, I never had that reoccurring nightmare again! I hope I never experience sleep paralysis again!
Ugh feel prickles. blood flowing.. sorry I don't know how to edit my typos!
I have that many times... Only times is when I am with love, but alone and it's horror dreams...
I remember when I was a kid, my mom asked me to run to her bedroom to get her watch before we left. I grabbed it and walked out of her room, down the hall, and turned to go down the steps. When I looked up, I saw a hand in her bedroom doorway motioning for me to come to the bedroom. Like the body was hiding behind the wall. I started to walk towards it when my mom yelled “let’s go!” I really think their home is haunted. I’ve had so many strange experiences growing up there.
I don’t know if we’re allowed to send videos or pictures in here but I recorded a floating ball of fire outside my house when I was younger (hence all the “fricks”) and there’s just too many weird things that I have questions about. Like, where did it even come from and where it went, or why my phone camera would not focus on anything the second I started trying to record it.
(if a video is not allowed here just tell me and I’ll take it down) (or remove it yourself if you have the ability to) Anyways here’s the video:
This happened about 6 months ago. I was with my girlfriend at her house for the weekend and she her parents had a pretty nice house in the countryside, keep in mind we are teenagers so her parents left us home alone for the weekend. My parents were also ok with it. Fast forward to about 11:30pm we are watching a movie in her room and we hear tapping on the roof. We brush it off as a branch that fell. 10 minutes later it happens on the back door, then the front door, the the outside basement door. At this point she wants me to go see, so I do. I walk to the front door and walk outside and around the property, I see nothing, I go back inside and around 12:15 am we hear the downstairs kitchen window break. I get up, I peek down the stairs and I see a 6'5 looking shadow at the end of the stairs. I shut the door quietly and tell her to call her neighbor while I call the cops. Her nearest neighbor is about a 5 minute drive away from her and the nearest police station is far away. We are sitting in the room with the door locked and we hear footsteps. He starts banging at the bedroom door. The second floor also has a roof balcony type thing. we went on it and he broke into the room as we did. Her neighbor showed up and found the guy under her bed and restrained him until Police showed up. I still remember his face
I have a story but not enough time currently to type it. Give me a few and I’ll share. These stories here are crazy!!!
Wow! That’s crazy! Sleep paralysis is insane and so scary! Sometimes I could tell it was happening to him and would try to wake him to pull him out of it and he wouldn’t budge. Then when he would wake up or break free from it finally, he would tell me that he was aware that I was trying to help him.
Only ever had that one time, I hope never again haha
@kindred gyro omg how scary! Thank goodness you guys thought fast!
You had a trundle bed. Wow your experience is intense and insane. Glad you are here to share it with us.
@pastel bane yipes I have blessedly never experienced sleep paralysis or what you have. I do have my own horror experiences through. I will save them for another day. I will share them I just don't have time now. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@pine flicker wow that's weird. Great capture
That is not cool. I am glad you are physically ok. I am sure it freaked you all out.
I hate sleep paralysis! The whole experience is like a nightmare
I def do but most people don't believe me... I've had a few encounters with the paranormal/ghosts.
I'm glad you're ok bc although I've never had sleep paralysis I have encountered something demonic and it was absolutely terrifying
Yeah I've got a story about ghostly activity so when I was in the military I was stationed at Fort Benning and I decided I was going to buy a house about a house in this place called Fort Mitchell is out the back gate I was like well it's convenient easy to get to work not a big deal but it was just heavy there like you always felt like this angry presence all the time well then we started hearing weird things cabinets doors would open after my daughter was born the baby monitor in her room she was about 3 months old doctors like hey let her sleep on her own just let her cry herself out you know she needs to comfort herself my wife was about to get up and then all of a sudden over the baby monitor we heard a woman's voice say it's okay hush baby that's when I grab the gun out of my safe and went to check on my child needless to say we are a bit more shaking when we went in and she was sound asleep and there was no one in the room no forced entry or anything very strange it gets a little stranger from this point on my wife took a job in Oklahoma and we end up moving to this place called El Reno Oklahoma well when we moved into this place in El Reno Oklahoma my wife said that she would hear like on a regular like thunder and I was outside in the afternoon clear skies nothing going on around us and I I completely heard the Thunder but it didn't sound like thunder me sounded like drums well after a little bit of digging turns out the Fort Mitchell is to start of the Trail of Tears and Fort Reno was the end of it I had no idea at the time it was later that we discovered this
When I was around 7-8 years old I was sleeping in my room (quick backstory my mom passed away when I was 5 but before that she fell in love with this house she had to have it and when it finally was on sale she got it and a year or so later passed away. I lived with my grandma and went to the house to spend couple nights with my dad on the weekend) Anyway I remember waking up and just having this scary creepy feeling. YES I was fully awake and alert so it wasn't a dream or sleep paralysis. My closet door was open and I was terrified but didn't know why and I reached up and was so scared I grabbed this crucifix off the wall above my bed. And out of nowhere I saw a shadow charge from the closet and slam into the side of my bed and back in the closet. I ran so fast down the stairs where my dad was asleep in the couch and NEVER slept in that room again. Even if I wanted a toy or something during the day I would run full speed in and out. I never knew what it was and never told anyone til very recently when I told my man. Even before my mom died my sis was always creeped out by her own room that was on the same floor next to mine but I never felt or experienced anything til that night
When I was 12 or 13 I got hungry around 9 or 11 on a Friday after school I went to go grab some cereal exhausted from the day and ready for the night. I poured my cereal, then my milk starting eating cereal spoon by spoon and slowly fading to sleep, not purposely, but just from being exhausted when I woke from the nap keep in mind I’m home alone in the small light illuminated only some of the room, my face planted on the table. I remember opening my eyes, looking only looking feeling, as if it was dark, like darker than it should be with the light on I’ve then tried to move. I could not move for 10 minutes. The sheer loss of control over my body, terrifies me and the fact that it was so dark didn’t help some people say this might be sleep paralysis, but I saw no demons, goblins or ghouls just darkness, fear, and no control.
I have a couple stories, two being from when I was in university which was a converted mental asylum and the events that I experienced.
During my first semester, I had my computer unplugged, my glasses thrown across my dorm, and my locked door open. I was alone in my dorm in every scenario and many people had the same experiences in different dorm buildings. Another semester (second year) I encountered a spirit on my way back to my dorm, not sure if anyone else met him but he just wanted peanuts so a corky spirit.
I know he was a spirit because when he left he vanished and it was in a well lit area.
Men thats giving me the chills
I had just left my marriage and moved to a new town to start a new life. I had 2 young children, both boys. Ages 2 and 4. I stayed with a friend for awhile but after saving and getting back on my feet, I found the perfect house. It was spacious and beautiful and located close to my job. The rent was cheap and I moved in right away. It was literally the step I needed to finally feel like my life was headed in the right direction. I had had the absolute worst year of my life and felt that things were finally looking up for me and my small family. We were on our own and things were certainly a challenge but things finally started to feel somewhat normal again. I was doing some work to the house as I could. I looked up some historical records regarding the house out of curiosity. It was a very old Victorian house that was actually built in 1899. It was well over 100 years old. It certainly had some history. I didn’t find anything strange about the house nor did I really expect to. I wasn’t looking up the history for the sake of the strange at that point. I was just curious about some of the architectural features throughout the home. The landlord gave me free range to do what I wanted with the house but I wanted to preserve the older features. I had done some painting and other minor repairs the first few months we’d lived there and as I was painting the walk in closet in the master bedroom I noticed the hinge door located on the ceiling deep in the back of the closet. At that point I wasn’t aware that the house had an attic. Or not one that was accessible. There were no windows on the outside that led me to believe the house had an attic. My curiosity got the better of me and up I went. It was small but deep. It wasn’t quite tall enough to stand up in but it was elongated and seemed to span back the whole distance of the house. The first box I came to was filled with old magazines from the 1940s and newspaper clippings. Another box was filled with old pocket knives. 2
2: a little further in and I stumbled upon some old painting. They looked to be as old as the paper clippings and magazines. The first one was of a woman in a dress that looked to be from the 1940s or around that time. She was alone in the portrait and declined to smile. The next was a man holding a baby and they wore the same style of clothing. The one thing I noticed almost instantly was the background. It was exactly the same as the background with the portrait of the woman. I rummaged a little more and found nothing of interest. I took the paintings down into the house to examine more closely and to see in a better light. I felt drawn to them almost. It was an odd feeling. The backgrounds were the same, like I said but they weren’t together and that bothered me. I couldn’t imagine why they wouldn’t be painted together. They looked to be a family but in separate paintings. I put them away and went on with my day. That night is when things really started to get weird for me. I woke up to the bed shaking. Not a small shake but a furious shake as if someone had grabbed it and was doing it on purpose. I sat up and crawled quickly to all edges of the bed and no one and nothing was there. The bed was still shaking. I was terrified and could hardly breath. Out of fear, I crawled back into the center of the bed and covered myself with the blankets. Praying for it to stop. After closing my eyes, for what seems like an eternity the shaking finally stopped. I was finally able to fall asleep at some point that night, but I woke up with the same fear I had felt the night before. I tried to explain it away as a a vivid dream. I had convinced myself that’s exactly what it had to be. I didn’t tell anyone about what I’d experienced. I was terrified to go to sleep that night. And again it happened. And again. And again. I finally told my sister about it and she convinced me that I was having sleep paralysis. I’d had it before and this was different. This was not it
This went on for weeks. I wasn’t sleeping and felt like my life was happening around me and I wasn’t there. I was terrified and couldn’t find a solution. I mean what do you do to stop something you can’t explain. I didn’t talk to anyone about it because I would sound like a lunatic. I was searching for a new place to live all the while. After about 3 months of enduring this terrifying unexplained event every single night for months, I found something. My kids were sad to leave but I couldn’t deal with any longer. A few nights before the move I pulled the paintings back out and I got the strangest feeling. I felt something evil. I can’t explain it. I took the paintings outside and lit them on fire. I seriously felt like a crazy person but something so strong inside of me was telling me to burn them. I went to bed that night and nothing happened. Next night, nothing happened. We moved and I’ve thought it about it for years. I can’t explain what was happening to me or if the paintings had something to do with it. But it hasn’t happened since and it still haunts me to this day. I did some more research on the house and later learned that a woman had murdered her husband and child there in the 1940s. Then lit the house on fire. They were able to save the home but it burned in the attic the most.
Thats intresting we once had an poltergeist we had him for some time i asked one my psychic friend if he could come over (astral projection) and ask the ghost why he was messing with us
Turned out we had an painting that was his i toke all the paintings at home and brought them sealed far away in the nearby mountains
And the ghost actvity home dropped to nearly nothing
I lost my fiancé about a year and a half ago and we had just had a baby. I remember seeing him at our house, it was just like his shadow figure but it was him I messed with the lighting, rubbed my eyes, shook my head etc. he was still there just standing there looking at me at first then looking at our baby. It was beautiful but intense.
I have had sleep paralysis since I was a kid. My earliest episode I remember was when I was four.
I used to get sleep paralysis alot when I was younger, not some much now.
The most curious thing that has ever happened to me is what I'm praying was a case of sleep paralysis. As a teen, I always fell asleep on the couch late at night in the living room watching TV. Some time after I had fallen asleep on a regular weekend night, I was awoken by my name being called in my ear by an extremely deep and sinister type voice.
I remember opening my eyes to see nothing but darkness and a face mere inches from my own. The face was pale white, but had a blue tint to it. The features and shape was what I would refer to as ghoulish with sharp jagged teeth. He (looked male) just gave me a stare and sneered at me. The closest thing to what I saw was the shinigami from the anime Death Note, but this was in the early 90's so couldn't be my mind thinking of that show in a panic.
I've been on and off religious throughout life, so at that time I mentally screamed out the name Jesus and immediately snapped out of it. The only thing that kind of gives me chills thinking about it all is when I snapped out of it, all the lights were still off. I was in a pitch black room that I definitely didn't fall asleep in that condition. I had one lamp on, the bathroom light on, and the TV itself running before I fell asleep. Could my mom or dad have turned it all off while I was sleeping? Sure, but they never had before or after that situation occurred.
I've thankfully never had anything like that happen to me again.
"... and she declined to smile." 😂
I know what you mean about those 1940s pictures. I guess painted ones are a bit different... but even in photographs from then, it was very rare to see people smile (yeah, I know they took longer to shoot, but c'mon. I can hold a smile for a long time 😋). It's like "Come on people, I know you're living in the Depression, but it can't be misery 24/7, can it?!"
Either way, CRAZY story.
Activity is often triggered or ramped up when objects in the house are moved. It's as though they (the objects) are holding it (the activity) down; moving it releases that energy and it just goes wild.
It was really wild time in my life. I had a lot more detail but was to much to type. Other small occurrences happened but I figured the bed shaking was the most prominent. I haven’t experienced anything like that since then and I hope never do. And side note: no one was smiling! Lol 😂
My boyfriend years ago used to experience sleep paralysis. I didn’t understand it back then and exactly what it was. Once I knew more about it I started paying more attention to him when he was sleeping. I had woken early one morning, probably around 3am or so and looked over at him and his eyes were open and moving side to side and I swear it was like he their was a massive weight on his body because he was eerily smushed into the bed deeper. He wasn’t awake but like I said, his eyes were open and looking straight ahead and he looked fearful. Fear was glaring from his eyes and I could feel it. As I was trying to wake him, his eyes shifted directly to my eyes and made eye contact. It was one of the creepiest things I’ve ever experienced. He finally woke and broke free of it and he was terrified and told me the story of the dark figure pushing on him and paralyzing his body.
That would have been awful for the both of you. Just the way you described it reminds me of scenes from Haunting at Hill House.
I guess I have a mysterious story.
When I was 10 my friend and I were at school at the end of the day. We were standing near one of the buildings that are 2 storeys tall because it was hot and we were trying to stick to the shade. Suddenly, I pull her away from the building saying "we shouldn't be here". A second later a window that was right above us broke and the glass pieces fell right were we'd just been standing. My friend was shocked and got super excited(?) saying I saved her. I don't know what made me move or why I said "we shouldn't be here". No one got hurt. I still think about it and I'm almost 22 now.
@Mr.Boombastic#3045 that is wild. My friend and neighbors had one that would launch a certain painting off their wall
