rename it to d3d8.dll and place it along with sonic.exe
when game load the very first scene, it immediately crashes
Someone already had it working relatively well on yt

Heavily, heavily, heavily experimental. Many visual bugs and glitches, and only really playable (with good lighting) on Emerald Coast and nothing else. With enough work, this could really get somewhere. It's just a bit too tedious for me to work on without proper tools, so I may wait until those come out before doing much else.

I couldn't get it to work with SADX and the DX8 dll, I'm going the other route and grabbing the original release

I couldn't get it running on either version, I have no idea what that guy in the video did to get it working
Did you managed to get to the main menu?
Yea main menu, character select, in game even, but I just get a black screen after that , can hear the game sounds etc, but no matter what I do, the black screen won't go away
And that's on the original release right?
That's on both releases, same thing happens

Unfortunately, capturing doesn't capture the textures either, but I can see them to mark them as whatever (UI etc). so I'm not really sure what's going on
Normally marking some textures fixes issues like black screens etc, but not in this case, what's weird is the UI still shows, like the pause menu, and if I fall into water (I'm in the hotel area with the pool), the timer will kick in and I can see the countdown.
It seems all 3D objects aren't getting rendered, but 2D elements are
In the character select screen, the 3D models of the characters won't even show, but all of the menu is there.

I'd say it was stable otherwise.
can't say for certain without getting 3D stuff working.
It works without video when I'm using the original CD version
But when I'm trying launch it with betterSADX or SADXmod manager
It crashes after 1~2 seconds after character selection
So is this for the steam version or the 2004 pc version of SADX?

steam version just crashes without BetterSADX
but with BetterSADX crashes in game
but on CD version we are stable ingame
but without 3D models
Thanks to the latest builds (dxvk-235 + bridge-29) The Steam version is running fine, with BetterSADX.
After installing the mod, just use the modloader to disable Lantern Engine and set the graphics to Lowest

technically it's the steam one downgraded into 2004
I feel like the outcome is the same though
I'll personally stick to the other thread, NV Alex is on there and seems to be taking an interest.
I'd rather invest the time making a mod for the steam version as it is easier to target a bigger player base as it's easier to obtain and install.
Even after the downgrade, there are some quirks which makes mods for steam version incompatible with the original 2003. As an example, the mesh hashes for water we encountered yesterday
