nah the engine is trying to create a shader for a effect/sprite system that does not exist on fixed function rendering
we patch this for 32-bit by fixing vertex buffers

Yeah it's a feature I want to request, when you set a roughness or normal map in the toolkit you can't adjust the sliders anymore ๐ฆ But for displacement you somehow can

if you're authoring textures yourself, your software's PBR should match remix so there isnt any point in adjusting it afterwards
i would heavily recommend substance painter for doing texture work
even for editing existing textures
Yeah substance painter and blender are on my 2025 list of things to learn, they'd both be really handy to know for remix

careful with the rtx lights, they make the game unstable as I havent really optimized the communication between the binary module and source's d3d9 device
also the reason why there is no light is because i accidentally left ignore distant lights on in the remix config

gm_flatgrass and gm_construct also use shader skyboxes that do not work so you should use a custom skybox or my HDRI sphere tool

yeah, no telling when i'll get them to work properly. we're not supposed to be creating rtx remix api lights directly, usually you'd use the bridge but we do not have that since it's 64-bit

@subtle bison not GMOD related so if you wanna move to #asset-creation we can. But regarding HDRis, I have one here on PolyHaven that I'm gonna edit to fit my needs. It's a gray overcast but I'm gonna make it reddish brown. I have a photoshop equivalent, should I be downloading in .exr format? and just the gamma needs to be adjusted before using Nvidia's tools to convert to .dds?
.exr or .hdr works, whichever has the bigger file size. For editing HDRI colors, i believe you have to use Photoshop's camera raw tools otherwise it crushes the dynamic range
and yes the gamma needs to be adjusted before modifying it
I'd be surprised if Affinity Photo 2 couldn't edit raw
i tried affinity but it always removes the HDR details
i was probably missing something though

you can totally compress the HDRI to 8-bit to make importing MUCH easier, but you lose the precision that remix takes advantage of

I always explain to claude what I'm trying to do in a long detailed message and then at the end ask it if it can automate it, 3 times outta the 4 I've asked it it's given me a python script that'll automate everything
I'm gunna start digging into some lua stuff and see if it can cook up some stuff
