#Checkbox to allow accruing crew aspect xp while at max corruption

Currently crew automation switches to discipline at 0 aspect xp when corruption is max. This sets corruption to max-1 most of the time.

I think it would be better if crew could continue leveling up until the last capital kill before leveling before switching to discipline. That way, corruption would stay at max most of the time.

This has a slight scaling improvement (because of perma-max corruption), lets you immediately capitalize with pre-farmed aspect xp when corruption is reduced by non-discipline means (like an acclimation level or a warp corruption reduction upgrade), and also makes grabbing corruption upgrade points require less micro to get the last point on all the crew if needed.

you can't get any aspect xp at all if corruption is maxed, so it has to go to max-1 or be discipline locked

tbh i would prefer it if the current implementation was smarter since you do spend most of the time with 1 less corruption than your potential (granted when youve got hundreds of cap 1 less is not huge but still)

Personally i would prefer if the default instead of holding at -1 of cap was to hold at the cap (because it never hold it at max so that part of the description is actually a lie/ misleading imo)

#

making it so you could earn xp but not tip over the lvl would make it more intuitive in that respect, as that would allow you to build up the xp needed while still being at max potential gains for corruption upgrades.

#

then you simply reach the xp limit, divert to discipline while still at the cap, earn the discipline lvl, swap back to aspect and straight away back at cap to then build the next limit

it holds it at the max... if you are forced to spend more time levelling discipline than aspects, which you don't really at high corruption cap

distant flame
#

no it doesnt

#

it holds it -1 of the cap

#

everytime ive looked its always -1

right, and thats the entire point of the suggestion to make it not the limit

i understand thats what it does, but what it does is not great

#

making the limit you cant turn the lvl at the end, instead of you cant even start the lvl would mean it could hold it at the cap

then make splicing work that way to allow the automation to manage them at the caps instead of always missing 1 of your potential

whatever the cause is the outcome is the same which is where it would be better if that was adapted imo

#

especially earlier when your cap limit is lower and that-1 hurts more

i have literally never seen that...

glass tapir
#

yeah cause all your aspect times be longer than the discipline time

#

by a lot

distant flame
#

hence the pretty please change it so it can hold it at the cap for those by changing the lockout point 😄 but fair point on the there are circumstances where it can hold it at cap

As far as I've seen, the automation is working as intended. If corruption is at max, it does discipline. If corruption is at max-1, it switches to an aspect.

#

The only time it doesn't is if acclimation levels up.

distant flame
#

sure, but you have a increasingly large amount of time it takes to lvl the aspect, while its sitting at -1 from cap

#

so if it was changed instead to let it 'charge' the aspect up to the point of the lvl it would all but eliminate the time when your missing that point

#

although as mentioned that would be more for changing the aspect themselves to allow it and then making the automation follow that

#

that is exactly the problem 😛

#

well, not truly. the 'problem' is that that the aspect cant gain any xp towards the next lvl unless it is at -1 of cap

arctic ore
#

I don't see the issue.

distant flame
#

which means if the aspect takes 8 hours to lvl, you have 8 hours your missing 1 potential point of corruption from the rank upgrades

#

every time your lvling it

arctic ore
#

It seems like you're talking about fairly marginal benefits at best.

distant flame
#

you dont need to be able to flip the lvl of the aspect, but being able to essentially precharge it so that it only needs 1 more capital kill before going to discipline would negate that entirely

#

right, its less impact the further you are agreed

#

but early in missing that one could hurt and is what the original request was for

As far as I can see, it's more complexity and more confusion for very little gain.

I'll admit I'm a little surprised how contentious this turned out.

For clarity, this wasn't a bug report, I know you can't level aspects a max corruption. That's why I was hoping for:

  1. To change the way crew xp works so that aspects can be leveled while at max corruption.
  2. To add a checkbox called something like 'allow aspect xp to be gained while at max corruption' in the crew automation settings so people can opt in/out of using this functionality.

In my opinion, the biggest benefit to allowing xp while at max corruption is actually that you can pre-level aspects while farming acclimation. This would have the most obvious impact in cases where both aspect and discipline have non-negligible leveling times. This would help at least a little, literally all the time while farming acclimation (even at low levels), as long as the crew doesn't get cleansed immediately every acclimation point.

Take the materials engineer in Nemoricus' screenshot for example. The checkbox would allow farming yttaldar/zephyron until almost leveled (instead of discipline) while waiting for those acclimation points that are about to roll in. That way, when the acclimation finally does come in, the aspect immediately levels up instead of needing to be leveled up (which can take hours). This reduces the time until the next acclimation point since it's based on uptime at high aspect levels.

That corruption will pretty much always be at max instead of sometimes getting hung on max-1 is just a nice minor bonus.

And it's a checkbox so people that dislike the idea can just turn it off to retain current functionality.

I think there's a fair bit of "you're in an end of content phase" to this idea.
