After reinforcing to R5 and prestiging to Battle Cruiser, I was having a very hard time making progress in the 80s. I was able to beat the Bosses, but the waves were easily destroying me and I was doing little damage to them. Finally I got frustrated and saved/exited and I ended up being able to clear 4 additional sectors, from 84-88 because the waves were taking damage and not damaging me as much.
The change happened right after I restarted without making any changes. So, I don’t have any more details, but it appears that some bonus wasn’t active or being properly accounted for until I restarted the game.
I used the auto purchase in research, so that’s also a possible data point.
