#Terminal crashing, rollback gives: Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.

After updating/upgrading last night, this morning my terminal crashes on launch. I found a similar problem here that recommended rolling back to "previous version" at boot, and did that. Now, I get nothing but "Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked." 🙁

My regular instance works, but terminal crashes immediately upon launch. Otherwise, everything works. Previous version fails to the aforementioned error.

This might be the same issue as in #1490346040912511126 . Since it's related to the VSO subsystem rather than the host system, rolling back won't resolve it. You'll need to reset the subsystem.

Okay, but how do I run: "vso pico-init --force" when I can't get to terminal? Terminal crashes instantly after launching, barely on screen for a second.

Right-click on BlackBox and select "Rescue Mode"

Thanks! I ended up installing a new instance of Black Box (not sure why it didn't say it was already installed), and then ran: "vso pico-init --force 2>&1" which reset it and reinstalled it. Once I rebooted, Black Box worked. But I am stuck at the username@vanillaos-XXXX prompt and not the VSO one. How do I get back to that?

I think you should uninstall the Flathub version

Huh? I re-installed BB from the VanillaOS software app (The app store)

#

Am I just lacking the APX container?

I only have one instance of BB on the machine. Also, I had NO apx container. I installed one and now it's working as before.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
