215 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
ive got the installation fixed altough right now i cant find how to install nvidia drivers i have a 4060 ti and i tried installing them
but it shows a error
ill show u
Its too new of a graphics card for the driver that comes with it. Please upgrade to the nvidia-exp vanilla image
how could i do that?
is that like new os?
theres a guide for it somewhere on the docs. basically changing a file and letting it do its thing
Cant find it for you rn
look around, ill be here
thank you
@stiff root
this?
bro..
Sup, thats the image. theres a guide on upgrading
yes and i tried upgrading
now my whole thing is tripping
every single abroot command i do sends this
abroot --help doesnt work
like any abroot command just sends the same message back
even after restarting
tried rebootin? ABroot is for swapping between the 2 init systems
before that maybe try undoing changes?
i tried rebooting yeah idk what to do anymore
how?
there should be a guide for it on the documentation. it restores your system to the previous state
now my whole ass abroot is gone ๐ญ
As a note: dont use ABRoot lightly. it is only supossed to be used for things that require root and goes against the philosophy of the os.
Please share the guide you followed. Im very confused rn
Im on my phone rn, so cant really do that.
ah okay
The documentation website for Vanilla OS
and then scroll down to my gpu is too new
i did that
and then my abroot didnt work
now i rebooted and my whole abroot is gone ๐ญ
What section did you do?
My GPU is too new
If your GPU is too new and not supported by the current drivers, you can try to switch to our nvidia-exp image, which contains the latest drivers available, but keep in mind that this image is experimental as well the drivers it contains, so you might experience some issues and we might not be able to help you with them.
To switch to the nvidia-exp image, you can run the following command:
abroot config-editor
content_copy
here change the name parameter to vanilla-os/nvidia-exp and save the file. Then run:
abroot upgrade -f
content_copy
once done, reboot your system to start using the new drivers.
that should be right. its very weird. Lets wait for one of the ABroot gods to hop into this thread. Dont panic
did you run any other command?
nope
i mean i tried installing the drivers before]
in a different way
but i can just reset this image and reinstall
I guess, if you are willing to reinstall it will solve it LOL. On install just go for advanced install and use the pico nvidia-exp image
so where it asks for the image give it ghcr.io/vanilla-os/nvidia-exp i believe it is.
and it will use that image instead of the desktop one
do i need to install it before?
ghcr.io/vanilla-os/nvidia-exp:main
okay so
i will boot from the usb and install it again
with express install
once im there
in 2 minutes
ill show u it if u can say if i click on what
Do you happen to know what could have happened to ABRoot wooden?
no idea
i dont work with linux ๐ญ
"Wooden" is me
i have been on windows for 7 years but never used linux
ohhhhh
shii
i knew that ๐
And no, not the damnedest. Genuinely never seen something like this.
ill reinstall it brb
ill let it know here in 2 minutes
okay bro
im here
@umbral talon @stiff root
install custom image, we gave you the url.
this i put there
correct...
Please dont ping.
alright im installing now
mb
Don't worry. Keep in mind it's on the rules.
ah okay wont do anymore
How is it going?
alright bro everytime i do the custom image thing it doesnt work at all.
it just stays stuck at the wallpaper and i cant open any apps or anything
Do you manage to install?
wdym??
No secure boot?
i dont understand
Well. After install it restarts once and starts the software selection part. Asks if you want a browser and so. Then it actually restarts to the os.
Did you set encryption?
this is all it does legit stay stuck on the wallpaper
wait imma send pic
ye i did the restart
after that there should be a gui for installation
it just doesnt pop up
yes
and then it asks like password and i put correctly
i tried reinstalling 3x already
Is it a laptop?
Encryption has proven problematic for PCs with Nvidia graphics in the part
Don't use it unless it's a device that can be physically stolen and you care about the data not being accesible through recovery tools
alr still dont work
it reboots but does not bring me to the install page thing
is the link invalid
??
What do you see this time
So no install menu?
nope
Or do you actually get to install
it has to be the installation disk
no
ill do the normal install
and then do it via the guide
hey bro
yo spanish hans
it asks me to install nvidia drivers with the normall installation
yes or no
okay so new iso???
No, use advanced install.
What do you see. Please describe. The installer is fully online, so things might take a second to load
It's very different from other distros in that regard
okay so if i choose the normal install it will do it no problem
if i choose the advanced install
it will reboot after install
and instead of giving me the installation window
No. You will have the same problem as before. It will install drivers that don't support your graphics card.
it just shows my wallpaper
yeah but advanced doesnt work
atleast this gives me a os
What iso are you using? Is it recent?
It might be a bug. I don't yet understand what doesn't work with advanced. Once you go into the installer mode, when you click on advanced it closes?
recent
no bro
listen
once i do the advanced installer
it works i choose all the steps
keyboard and all that
and then
it reboots for the other part of installation
but instead of showinf the installation window it shows only my wallpaper
Alright. So what might be happening is that because of encryption you set before, disk is now write protected. Do you have a Debian or Slackware image you can live boot into? We will try to override all partitions on that disk with a big one on ext4
After blanking the disk, retry install
Are you trying to Dualboot?
yes
dualboot
i blanked the disk before already
im doing the abroot thing
itd working now
so i ddi the guide thing
and if i plug my gpu in rn it stays black
alright after doing the abroot config thing it wont open any thing up
like black box
legit nothing works
Dualboot Is not supported.
bru
Great to hear, but it might break any second
Just so u know
The abroot system shares the /boot/EFI partition with windows unless you specified vanilla to use a different partition manually.
Because of the way abroot works, you might have trouble later.
its a diff disk
Ah then it should be ok. This is the only correct way of doing it actually. One /boot/EFI partition per disk
alright spanish hans any abroot command ruins my whole system
the abroot pkg add gnome-tweaks
abroot pkg apply
after doing those commands it absolutely destroys my system and i cant do anything anymore
it boots to the system then if i click any application it doesnt open
is there any reccomendation to fix this?
rn im on vanilla os
i fixed the gpu issues
No clue my dude. No expert on abroot. I just know it's delicate
could u maybe get someone that knows the abroot things to help here?
I believe this thread has changed topic now. Please create a new one with the ABroot problems. Im sure someone more experienced on the nuances of it can help you. I could only offer my help on the Nvidia Issue.
Cant do that, sorry.
