#What do you all think?

This is cool, I like the opening, but for me it feels like the harmony and chords want to be I-II-V-III, instead of I-V-V-III.
I'm not a fan of the fart bass tbh. I think there is way too much mud going on from some kind of harmonic intermodulation. The vocals cut through really cleanly though because of it however.
Nice vocals but slamming a mix into a limiter like that seems too amateurish to support the vocals
^^^ My first thought aligns with @viscid bramble comments - Kick and Bass are pushed beyond the limit. If that distorted kick sound it what you are going for you can still achieve that in a much better way that doesn't muddy up your low end.
What is something actionable to tell my producer? I’m really lost in understanding this but I know he will understand. thank you for taking the time to give feedback. @faint fjord @viscid bramble @candid hornet
Ah I thought you produced it. Well ultimately it's up to you to get your producer to do what you want. It's your money and vision and they work for you. If you like it then that's cool! I personally would like to hear far less distortion to suit how your vocals have been performed and mixed.
What do you want the track to sound like from your own personal artistic standpoint?
I could help with language to communicate with your producer
I want it to sound like something youd play in a club in Tron Legacy
Out of interest @marsh bay did you pay a producer for this?
Definitely better. With a better bass instrument it will be decent
Which would you suggest?
As for the tron sound you'll want to reference daft punk and use a bass from a 70s synth
This gives you that synthwave sound
Here's my synth for example.
Is that the kind of sound you're after? Not the song writing or melodies... Just the vibe
Did you producer use Ai to make this?
It feels like there’s a bit of a disconnect in direction right now. Since you’re working with a producer and trading beats and vocals, it becomes really important that you, as the artist, clearly define what you want your sound to be.
Any feedback we give is always subjective, but it’s much easier (and more useful) when we know things like:
-What artists or styles you’re aiming toward
-What you want the listener to feel
-Whether this is meant to be melodic, aggressive, emotional, minimal, etc.
Right now it sounds like the production is doing its thing, but it’s not obvious what your vision is yet. If you can take the steering wheel and communicate that direction to us and to your producer the music will level up much faster. cheers!
i basically want to be a daft punk that sings and raps.
ai was used solely for the cover art
we don't touch ai for anything pertaining to the song itself.
and yeah i definetly appreciate the feed back. I'm really just after a sample size to see what folks think the sound reminds them of.
looking for comparables and whichever is the strongest i'll do that
Damn that sounds like a good producer gig
Hmu if you want to do that. I'd be well keen for it. I'm a huge fan of daft punk and own a PRO-800.
Sick! Do you know which era of Daft Punk you more resonate with?
Veridis Quo era for sure
Amazing! not sure what I was expecting you to say, but didn't peg Veridis Quo era!
OK, based on your previous tracks here's my assessment if thats the direction you are leaning:
You want a bit more emotion and atmosphere vs the "aggressive" feeling those tracks have. More warm/analog-leaning synths rather than busy sound design.
Is your producer aware you are wanting to go this direction? if not it might be good to get them in that headspace by listening to Daft tracks from that era! It will help a load
thats smart . im going to let him know . thank you

is the distortion intentional? Im trying to think where I've heard music like this and it sounds like its blasted out of a car that has an insane sound system that rattles. From a production stand point its something I avoid but it feels like the levels are smashed into a limiter intentionally. If not, then I think it needs a more conservative approach to preserve the dynamics when mixing and mastering

it's all the rage
fml this is what it feels like to get old 😅 I am an old school hip hop fan so I can't say this is in my lane at all. I wouldnt know where to start on giving direction other then slam the limiter and compressors into oblivion and hope for the best lol
At least on homeboys track he's sharing I can hear what he's rapping about! he's miles ahead of this 2Slimey guy
I got it off youtube. I’m really ignorant to that stuff. A mixing engineer would be able to solve that right?
How about this one:
If the beat was ripped from YouTube then there’s really no repairing it entirely. It would have to be remade. I thought you said you had a producer making these beats for you?
That bet on it track is almost smashed, not as aggressively as the other ones but again if distortion is what’s in right now then lean into it. It just subjectively sounds like shit from a mixing/mastering perspective to me. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong or not what people will be into
I do have a producer, but I don’t over exhaust him with work so that’s why I snatched it from you tube
Cool, I'm not sure how a community of producers/sound designers/mixers can provide any value if you are just sharing youtube audio from stuff you didn't make or can edit.
We can give mixing advice but if the track is produced by someone you don't know, already mastered and on youtube there isn't much we can do to help. If your producer is making you stuff and open to feedback to help improve it I would recommend inviting them to join this discord and we can go from their and help them adjust based on demo's they share.
Woooof the original drums are absolutely slammed into harsh distortion in the original. Checking out the newer versions...
Tbh this sounds like hot garbage. The quality of whatever the original sound might have been has been destroyed by converting it to a lossy format. It sounds like someone recorded this on their phone by playing the original on a broken speaker.
Nervously looks around while recording studio monitors into a $50 cassette recorder
so I’m gonna have the beat reproduced and then retake my vocals then have it mastered n mixed by a studio professional
he charges $500 so its all good
Thanks for your thoughts as always
Were almost there
Came up with this idea with my friend Messy Jesse who also wrote the future music jams:

It took me days of thought and a conversation with someone on underbelly's discord server to find the video that explains the feeling lol.
