DESERT JAZZZ
I like the harmonies and the tension created by the lead! The groove is a nice element - would love to be able to hear the drums more! The synth sound is kinda uninspiring to be honest and mixed too loud by like 6 dB maybe. The main synth would benefit from not always playing too.. it's taking up a TON of sonic space and becomes fatiguing to my ear really quickly. Some automation on that sound could work well to keep it fresh and evolving.
thanks for all the input. i have a newer version of this that ive been working on im gonna see if i can compress it. im curious what you mean by uninspiring and what part exactly? like the melody its self is okay but the instrument/mixing leaves something to be desired?
this is an updated version of the project
also what do you mean by automation?
Not able to watch this rn but this guy is pretty good generally
Ableton automation is one of the most useful tools for creating movement and interest in your music. (Download this project file and samples completely free here: https://bit.ly/3fG1ECN)
If you’ve ever wondered how to automate in Ableton Live 10, in this Ableton automation tutorial I explain exactly what automation is, how, why and when to us...
I'll give this a listen once I'm off the phone!
Nice! Drums are definitely more present. I think adding a shorter decay time, and/or a lower sustain value to the lead synth would help it from feeling too dominant. Also you seem to have some conflicting frequencies in your different instruments. You probably could try to EQ that out, but at the end of the day I think this is symptom of needing to choose better sound sources from the beginning. You could try changing the synth voices on your instruments and see if something clicks in a way that surprises you. At the end of the day, this is a cool musical idea, and you should just make more of them and try to get better each time rather than make this one perfect! Then you can revisit this later once you've progressed a bit.
thanks man i appreciate it! your a good critique.
one question though by voicing do you just mean the melody/notes i’m choosing to use?
