thank you, appreciate it! ill try to create a new idea today or tomorrow!
for the singer, idk where i could get a fitting vocalist
@wicked tree started a new idea at the end of the track if you wanna check it out
its updated on sc
It's cool. I could use a bit more constrast though.
What if...
you kept that last section the same up top but switched your bass notes?
Maybe two bars of D, two bars of C#, two bars of F#, and two bars of A
That might be a nice change.
You could also use that section more than once in the song. You do not have to wait until the end to bring it in.
Maybe try it somewhere in the middle as well?
another suggestion, I wonder what it would sound like if you started the track around a minute in..and also allowed the drums to groove a bit more consistently. (maybe less breaking up the beat and fills and stops and starts etc?)
take what you like.
leave the rest.
you could probably find her somewhere out there

ill read it properly tomorrow, but thank you already for the thoughtful feedback
ill try out the changed bass today, for the arrangement i think ill keep it like this, i want the listener that listens through the whole thing get a reward at the end if that makes sense
for the drums, i asked my imagined drummer if he would be ok with it, but i guess his ego is too big 😆
copy that. you get to create the rules. whatever you say is right. I look forward to listening to what you decide. keep me posted.
@wicked tree hey hru? i tried a new rhythm for the... well rhythm guitar, lmk if it "feels" on or "off" to you
also im currently experimenting with the bass notes, ill keep you updated
also also, you probably make music as well
would love to hear a track or 2
is this where you want to share it?
or do you want to email things?
oh wait...
sorry, I am just waking up. I was thinking you were someone else. My bad. Did you update the SoundCloud link?
Let me go check that.
yeah, it should be updated
I am digging the ideas!
It for sure sounds improved.
It seems you chose not to use a contrasting section.
I feel like I am missing that.
It is a choice...and yours to make.
That is just what my ears want to hear.
But it could also work like you have it.
Ultimately, I would also like to hear it with a singer.
But again, that is what I would want to hear.
If you do not hear it that way...that is fine as well.
The last thing I would like to hear is a bit more clarity in your mix.
Maybe, this video could help with that?

as far as my music goes, my side project (They Call Us Reve) put out an album earlier this year.

I am working on my next album, and it will be out soon-ish.
I will share that with you when it releases.

i tried adding a violin but that didnt work out
xD
with clarity you mean what exactly?
i dont think theres enough space for a singer
ill check the video out, ty
your album sounds great
the mix/master is very clean
i love the drums
im guessing they are not programmed
Well, I can see why a violin may have not been satisfactory. The notes I suggested were specifically for the BASS. If you were to put those notes in the register of a violin...they would likely clash and not be very pleasing.
Maybe try them in the bass and see how you feel about them.
As a reminder these are the notes to try:
two bars of D, two bars of C#, two bars of F#, and two bars of A
Literally those notes in the bass (not as chords...just single notes)
But leave what you have going on in the other instruments (on the top of the bass) the same.
Regarding clarity, imagine you have a room. You want to put furniture and other objects in the room. You are going to have to make choices as to how you will arrange the objects in your room. Maybe first you will want to decide what you want to use the room for. Will it be a bedroom? Will it be a music studio? Will it be a dining room? etc.
Once you have a clear picture in your mind of what outome you desire, then you will naturally be lead to a series of questions that will alert you to the next obvious steps.
If you want to have a singer on your track, you would arrange the furniture so a singer had room to be in the room.
If you are uncertain as to how to arrange a room to fit the objects you wish to have in it...
maybe look at a magazine of other rooms with objects arranged in a way that reflect how you would like your room to look.
In other words, maybe listen to My Bloody Valentine or The Cure and see how their rooms are arranged and take a lesson for the possibilites that could be available to your song and you.
When two or more instruments are playing, they are potentially going to be occupying some of the same spaces.
At that point, you are going to have to make choices as to what you want to feature and....
what you want to send to the background. You are going to have to "mix" levels....the loudness and softness. The distance and the nearness. The left and the right. The short and the long. Basically the opposites.
So for example, I am not hearing your bassline with the clarity I would like to. What are some options you have available to you to make it clearer?
You have several layers going on. What would you like the listener to focus on?
Stuff like that is what I mean by clarity exactly.
Presently, I agree. I do not think there is enough space for a singer.
hmmm i think ive cut the lows out of everything except the drum kit, i could try side chaining or a heavier compression?
maybe a simple volume boost
also with all the layers i try to achieve a "wall of sound"
shoegaze has very weird mixing
ill try out the bass notes, i hadnt tried it yet
Check Splice, there are some many verses to find.
Check your high, its lood excited at the tops. really
sorry, can you explain differently, i dont understand 😭
The high frequencies are too loud
from the drums?
everything
its a common thing producers do, or you have ear damage not personal
your mix lacks mid lows and is overly saturated on the highs
i have tinnitus actually 💀
well take a song of the same genre and look at a EQ with spectrum analysis on it. and compare it with your song
you will see how your song lacks mid bass and is too loud on the highs
wait i know a good song like yours

hmmm
i peeped it and i feel like the highs are the same as mine
one sec
on the top right you can see the highs
should they be even lower?
keep in mind theres a lot of crashes going on in that section of the song
I'm not the biggest expert, but the curve is too convex
alright, noted, ill have a look at the highs when i continue working on it
thank you!
so bass & highs
contrasting element
its also the modern sound what we are used to, music more bottom heavy lately.
always evolving xD
@wicked tree your answers are interesting. your visualization technique is what I do, as well
me with aphantasia:
but his answers are really thoughtful 💙
no way 😭 whats your memory like?
I use concepts like "imagine you're carving sound like you're a sculptor" and every time you 'expose a sound' is like unveiling parts of the sculpture
I basically just use conceptual ideas to track things
But I make up a lot of associations that make it easier for me to recall and organize a lot of choices
So, a jazz song might sound like it's in a small club or an orchestral hall
I can pick out choices like that in my head and imagine an atmosphere
And then I can ask myself "hmm, does this new sound I'm testing out fit that? What would make it fit the scene?"
Man, Im the opposite, i litteraly see black outlines when i think of something
I'd say it's really just my own kind of organizational system that uses my own sensory memories
But that using multimodal sensory memories really fluidly for planning is a massive organizational and decision making tool
I'll bet folks that have visual memory do it with their visual memories more lol
So when you remember where your keys are. How do you remember?
I dropped my keys on the sofa?
@chrome prism wait til you realise theres people with literal pictures in their head 😭
yea i do
when i forget something, i remember it visually sometimes with color where it is
like a colored pencil on a desk
i see it visually
completely clear?
no i dont think so. but if its a fluorescent marker on a white desk . see the white desk with the marker in my head
damn, our mind is such a strange concept
@woven hemlock yeah we just need to think differently
I mean I just lose things constantly rofl
I tend to spend at least ten minutes a day looking for something I was recently holding. Like my phone.
Apparently, other people can remember what things look like
I was scared to be left alone until I was about 15 bc I wasn't sure I could remember people
Or recognize them again
thats tough
yeah its really weird, i cant really describe most people, but like i know when i see them???
its really weird
i live in a densly populated metropolis i constantly see people i see before its kinda weird
like i seen them 10 times because of public transit but never ever talked to them
Brains are weird and people don't talk and compare it enough lol
true
Hey @solar torrent
I put out my new solo album last week!
Will you check it out when you get a chance?
