#Chromatic-Piano Keyboard Layout

Presently the only Chromatic keyboard layout is guitar-style.

I'd like a Piano-style layout, where rows 1&3 are the black keys, and rows 2&4 are the white-keys.

The Novation Circuit Tracks has this feature.

As a beginner who's trying to follow piano/keyboard tutorials, and it's kinda tricky to use the guitar-style layout 😄

This should just be a layout addition on top of 4ths, 3rd, chromatic, piano, “in key”. Those should be the 5 options for sure

@lapis lake yeah, a piano style layout is indeed pretty necessary to me! I've requested it as well in the 4ths Layout thread, but secondary requests get drowned fairly easily.

#

(I might add: based on that model, possibility to toggle keys on/off or change their color according to a chosen scale, maybe... But that's less of a priority.)

Scale highlighting would be awesome

That would be a dope tool to help learn scales.

Akai Force has this and it's missing on move to me too.

Roland MC101 has this and it was really useful

I don't know how easy it would be for developers to add an additional layout equivalent to the one presented above, but it would be a huge plus for many users (especially keyboardists, of course).

Personally, I wouldn't even feel the need to connect an external keyboard to the Move anymore, and I would truly have an all-in-one system 🤩

#

What would also be super cool is to use the grayed-out pads (in the diagram above), for example, the two on the left for pitch bend up and down, and the two on the right for modulation(wheel) and Hold (sustain), for example.
This should be super cool thanks to the pressure sensitivity of the Move's pads 💪

Piano keyboard would be super useful

I'm loving the new fourths layout (especially as I'm primarily a guitar player)
Any idea on when that will be available to be used when in control live mode?

I agree that this would be helpful for learning the layout of piano keys (+ scales with the mentioned highlighting idea) for beginners as well as providing the opportunity for people experienced with the layout to use it to their advantage.

Regardless of people being experienced with the isomorphic layout, having this as an option allows for a shift in perspective that can lead to different ideas!

I would really love to try this out with the step sequencer as it can make putting specific chords in easier.

Also, I think it would show a slightly higher range than the current chromatic layout since that repeats keys.

Just two more votes one more vote and we’ll be at 50!

So..
based on Julien C.'s excellent diagram and the above suggestions for improvement
it would look something like this, right?

daring quiver

yes or like this:

#

it doesn't matter, as long as I have this kind of layout on my Move 👍

I'm still gonna want root note highlighting, and in-key note illumination.
how would that work for something like F minor? The scale would start in the middle of the bottom row, end in the middle of the top. Would we want to slide the whole thing over so the root note is still on the bottom left?

Bump! Still an important feature for some of us!

still hoping for this as well

Yeah, 1.6 should be about these little, less glamorous features that perfect the workflow (ahem, 16 level velocity…)

I love that so many people want this! I’ll just include, that this feature would be so useful to me as a pianist!

Is just clicking the thumb up how I vote?

Fingers crossed it’s coming soon!

I always switch to the keyboard layout in the Note app for anything melodic, would totally do the same on my Move.

Bump! Let’s get some thumbs up! It’s a minor wish, but it would greatly increase Move ´s playability for us keys players.

Let’s keep the votes comin’ for 1.9 !

Yes, it would be great if we could get it for 1.9 🤞

Chromatic piano with scale highlight would be a godsend for people like me that are beginners following lots of tutorials

Let’s keep pushing it for the big FW update, guys !

Yep, current layout is pain in ass (at least for me). Even with a bass player background, i prefer piano roll over this fretboard inspired layout in any scenariou. Also it would be easy to inplement, just take a look on Novation circuit, 2 octaves of piano roll

would be super useful for jamming with other people playing guitars (i.e. a band). currently Move is kinda useless to me in this type of situation. like the person i jam with can tell me what notes they are playing, but i currently do not have an easy way to play the same notes (like in a different order)
