also just because you select low ping preference does not magically make your ping super low it just chooses the best matchmaking option available, even if it's relatively high as well

not 100% sure what happened there but I can think of one possible thing, which is maybe a connection issue caused the game to still think you had the grenade in your hand, causing you to blow yourself up

kind of the same principle as how a laggy person may shoot someone in the head and hear the headshot noise but the server doesn't register it and the enemy stays alive
