ABMH : So two things happened here. first of all, if you shoot a t5 armor with t5 ammo from ar30 or sj, it does not one tap thorax. The t6 ammo does.
Secondly, you hit the arm before the bullet hit thorax which reduces the damage dealt to thorax.
