I feel this data collection is a violation of privacy. I would feel more comfortable knowing my voice chats aren't being sent to another party. At the very least I feel voice chat transcriptions should be optional, so my friends and I can continue to use the in game voice chat (which is a great feature for immersion) without this breach of privacy. Thank you 🙂
#Remove Voice Chat Transcriptions and their Collection

The list of reasons to use Discord mics just keeps getting longer huh?
But this feature makes the immersion better, if u feel like it's a breach of privacy, just talk over discord (even though i think they probably also use voice transcription)
Collecting every user's voice chat transcriptions does not make the immersion better
For the feature they use it for it does
I agree, reading doesn't make me want to use the feature.
You only play solo
Sometimes with strangers and friends too
Play the game with the word together in it's name alone
Backrooms escape alone
I now realize how silly it is to tell people to play the game solo when they mention multiplayer issues
"escape together? Nah screw that, escape alone"
Can someone explain to me the implications of this? I agreed without paying too much attention to it
they have to send your voice through a third party scanner to detect only your voice and not background sounds/keyboard sounds, for more immersion
i mean it's prob only some random ai scanner who hears them
Yeah but it kinda creeps me out
I would like some kind of reassurance from the devs
do u want them to tell you personally: we won't steal your voice to scam grandmas? 😅
No but I would like to know better how it actually works
I mean they say they dont send it to third party's so thats a little bit of reassurance
I dont know how true it is but they say they dont
I don't think the issue is how our data will be used, but that it is being collected and used at all. We have no way to verify that the devs are only using it to "improve in game features". We have no way to verify that "Personal information (such as names, locations, and similar identifiers) is automatically removed" properly and securely, or that the data is truly anonymized. The developers have been able to give us an amazing game up to this point without this invasive data collection (unless they are only now disclosing it), so I do not see why it is necessary for ALL players to choose between sending all their voice chat transcriptions to the devs or continuing to be able to use in game voice chat.
No voice data is sent to a 3rd party. Everything is done on device (expect the personal information scrubbing, which was assumed to be too risky to not have done with a larger model on the server side for 100% removal) . Disclosing how we are going to use data and then doing something else with it is highly illegal. We follow GDPR for all data collection which is the strictest of standards.
Most large games do this and just hide it by burying it in their privacy policy. (and not even on device, but sending it to a third party) We wanted to be upfront about and make sure people we ok with it.
We are going to be implementing a ton of new advanced voice features soon for immersion and thought we could do it with much better security than other games.
Battlefield, GTA Online, Valorant, COD, R6, Marvel Rivals all do this, and most are sending raw audio to a third party they have no control over which honestly I think is a huge breach of privacy.
Raw audio in BET never leaves the device, just mostly accurate transcriptions of words said, but that is handled with the most care we can possible give.
If you say rude things ingame, can you like, get muted or smth despite nobody reporting you?
You can report people?
-# yes
Never knew
No, its just there for manual review if we have an enormous amount of reports for a person. Theres no automatic moderation
I mean I only play with friends or solo
That's good
I was just worried about getting muted by some AI for no actual reason
Youtube reference
I'm traumatized with Youtube's AI
Yeah, theres no automatic ban/mute system and i highly doubt we would ever add that due to potential edge cases
"We changed some of your settings" 🏴☠️
please don't
I'm 100% sure people would start getting muted because AI thought ''shirt'' meant ''shit''
Lol yeah. I think that happens a lot in valorant
Using AI may be easier and less stressing, but believe me, using it for something like this would only make a lot of people leave the game.
The only game that I talk to other people in (Tf2) has no human or AI moderation
We still havent collected enough reports to ever take action on someone. Console requires us to have it there, but we never really look at it. So transcripts are a good last layer of defense to make sure someone isnt just getting spam reported
I would like to see how you implement this, right now I use faster whisper (a fork of open ai whisper) for local voice transcription, I have an RTX 3060 mobile and if I try to run it while running this game my laptop has a meltdown down because the GPU memory / capacity is maxed out so based on that I'm very skeptical that this can be done on device while running this game without experience lag which would affect gameplay significantly unless you had a high end GPU. Plus I think you should have an option to turn this feature off as a lot of people like myself use local voice transcription software exactly because of not wanting to share personal data with third parties.
