AI was still very new a few years ago and unfortunately a lot of parents were not aware of potential dangers so when they looked at the app store rating and it essentially said "safe for 12 year olds!" they trusted/believed that. another issue is that bc the app is designed to look like a chat app, a lot of parents didn't even realize their kids were talking to AI. the mother of one girl who died said she did try her best to keep an eye on her daughter, but every time she asked her what she was doing she said she was chatting with friends, and that's what it looked like to her. i don't think cai is 100% to blame but they aren't completely free of blame either
