It’s not removed for the “new” UI. It’s in the bottom corner.

There’s three things going on.

1.) the legacy UI that everyone knew that had the pfp by the chat bubble.
2.) The new UI that moved the PFP to the bottom corner and menus to the bottom of the screen. This one wasn’t rolled out to everyone yet.
3.) the update that happened today that broke the old UI that’s getting called the “new UI” when it’s not.

I haven't attempted it yet, im new to working on these sorts of things so I dont wanna screw my phone up. But there is ways you can get ais without it eating ur cpu, like using a key for a model that is already running on a server, I would use the open Ai models, and you can code your own instructions in python.

I run a few smaller models on my PC with a response of about 10 tokens/s if it's a small model, but the smarter the model I use it tends to get much slower, for example, my chatgpt model (gpt-oss:20b) runs at about 1 token/2s

That explains it, if you experiment by upping the tokens, you may find a sweet spot but ai is very very reliant on cooling systems, and a pc isn't gonna handle it for long

Cooling isn't a large factor, believe it or not. The main factor is VRAM to store the model and a good GPU to crunch the numbers. As stated, 32gb of ddr5 ram stores a lot of models, but the caveat is that the larger models require a lot of number crunching.

Ollama is a good source to look into. Had a good way of downloading & running models with minimal lag and entirely on your own computer, with cloud computing options. It has an http server that you can run with ollama serve, or have it auto run. It will run on localhost 11434, and you can look at stack overflow or their website for posting requests :)

I understand they have lives and all that, like I said what I'm frustrated is they gave us the ability to give feedback on this specifically.. And a setting to turn off the new UI.. And it doesn't make sense to me to add changes to the old UI that basically make it almost a copy of the new one. I don't understand why they're not just changing the new one up if they want to make a change. I just want them to leave the old UI alone because I have OCD and the change in layout really messes with my head every time they try to do it. Not to mention.. I like to see my persona image in the chat because I have lots of different versions of the same character for different worlds/scenarios.. And it kind of sucks to have to click into the bot itself and look at the persona I have linked to it to remind myself whenever I go back to a chat.

Oh I didn't even think of that, but that is totally a possibility. I have coded back in the past when I was in college and I know it can be SO finicky. My professor used to tell me coding was 99% pulling your hair out and 1% actually getting it right. So many little things can throw something off. I ended up leaving college with my communication and new media degree and saying never again 😅 I refuse to code because it can be so stressful and tedious, I loose patience after a while.

Me too, because it took away my ability to use the app because of my reading disability that I have. And the only reason why I use character AI is because they give free access to the speech to talk other chat apps hide it behind a paywall. Character AI is the only AI chat that doesn’t and it lets me enjoy the app and to use my mind in a very creative way.

I can still talk to the character, but narration constantly interrupts, often saying the goal’s been achieved and it’s all over.

There’s three things going on.

1.) the legacy UI that everyone knew that had the pfp by the chat bubble.
2.) The new UI that moved the PFP to the bottom corner and menus to the bottom of the screen. This one wasn’t rolled out to everyone yet.
3.) the update that happened today that broke the old UI that’s getting called the “new UI” when it’s not.

I have no idea if any non-cai+ users had the actual new UI before this started rolling out though.

I personally dislike this new update because now I can't tell which personas were used for which chats. It would matter more if I were still able to chat, because changing personas mid-chat (by accident) could confuse the bot.

Mmm. Migraines almost always occur in the same region. They’re really intense yes really really intense pain. USUALLY have a trigger but mine isn’t totally clear. If your pain responds to a triptan but not a typical otc painkiller it’s indicative of a migraine or cluster headache.
