How to do it:

Nyan is still unstable rn imo. Recently some plus users have been praising Nyan for giving a lengthy and really good response, but it's still wonky and not always perfect all the time. Probably bcs they're still testing some things out. But when it's stable, the feedback from other ppl is pretty good.
From what I've experienced myself (this was a few weeks ago b4 Nyan got tweaked), the noticable difference between Roar and Nyan is that Nyan is much better at moving the plot forward. So if you'd like a fast-moving pace story, Nyan is better at that than Roar that tends to stuck in the same scene for a long time.

Story Mode was actually available to the free users too back then, but for a short period. The way it works is that there's a pre-made Story where you can choose which bot to be the main-character of that Story, and then as you start the Story, you'll be given 2-3 answer options to choose from to progress with the plot. The Story ends in a few chapters, so it's not long.
I think Scene is kind of like the revamped version of it.

Trying to do familial RP on c.ai truly is tough, and it does require you to ensure through your messages that you're stating actions like hugging are platonic when you type your message, and supplementing with editing to make sure behaviors don't start to begin with+a lot of swiping. It only remembers approximate information some of the time, and you unfortunately have to work around that when you RP.
