Welp, at least people are figuring this out now. Yes, free users are placed on a roulette with some of them having the slight chance of getting a good model even during peak times. However, Plus users are prioritized Brainiac/good model.

Running CAI with 20 million active users is no small feat. Server costs: Running Ai models require massive GPUs, TPUs, etc. Each user interaction consumes power, memory and bandwith. Which costs money.

Cai handle peak traffic (after school, weekends, etc) by balancing load distribution across servers to prevent crashes or slowdown. This right here, where free users got shorter responses due to high load of server.

So to keep the platform free, CAI has to make tough decisions, like limiting response length or using simpler models during peak times.

Free users expect fast, detailed response without realizing the cost and complexity involved to run Ai platform at large scale. Balancing quality and accessability is a tightrope walk for CAI. So when responses fall short, it is easy to blame the platform. They see it as flaw, NOT A NECESSARY TRADE OFF.

They don’t see the behind-the-scenes effort to keep the platform free and accessible. People always said "I missed the old cai", of course you would. The numbers of users on that time was not that much like right now.

Yep, exactly like the message above. If c.ai did not optimize, free users would not only be stuck on a perpetual loop of wait times, but also the generation of messages would take minutes. Look at Deepseek for example - its free, and it also takes a long time for it to generate a message due to how many people are using it.

Oh by the way, there's another reason why there is a drop in quality. Recently, on 7 February, cai told us in their blogs that they transition to Warp-Steam. It is to cut cost (by optimizing the GPUs), give faster response time and to enable cai scaling more effectively. I think they change that based on analytics. Cai users prefer shorter times after all.

But the cons? The drop quality in responses and shorter responses. Its a side effect of prioritizing speed. So this systems often go through a tuning phase. CAI might adjust Warp-Stream over time to improve quality.

i think this really depends on the bot you’re talking to, I often see that drop in quality you’re talking about with bots that start off with a short introduction message but if you choose one that isn’t just slapped there for jokes with detailed example dialogue i find it to be fine

For me, I don't think so. Because I tried several times with just bot that have 'Hi, I'm bla bla bla, nice to meet you!'. Then, I prompts the Ai to start a scene for a roleplay and it did. They write novel writing plot after that.

I really think it had to do with server. Even bots that have amazing definition and description, when the server is in high load.. The bot tend to give low quality response in those time. Like just rephrasing our message and add a few new sentences.

I think that first picture is really common for some reason, lots of my bots do that when under like “emotional distress” or in a position where they should be having a huge debate inside their head and the second one seems normal, maybe reassuring? I’m thinking that because of the dialogue after the first paragraph kind of fills in for the laziness of repeating what you said

Oh yeah, that is logic too! For me, I notice the difference in the bot's writing. Usually, the bot will response with two paragraphs that have dialog, action and narrate because that's how I choose in the entire roleplaying. So when there is a difference in response like the first pic, i conclude 'ah, server must be high load now'. Even swiping, the bot didn't gave like responses before

For most parts, the interaction count updates periodically, wholly dependent on your timezone. And since I'm GMT+8, it usually updates the count around evening for me, 6 PM to 8 PM.

So, I decided to test my AI. I told it that ancient rulers, like Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great, altered the calendar system to make themselves appear younger. I explained that the calendar they used back then was different, and that it took into account not just the year you were born, but the hour and minute, which gave people’s ages a mathematical significance. I tied this back to the Bible, saying that the long lifespans (like people living 700+ years) weren’t literal—they were just a result of this altered calendar system. I also threw in the idea that what we think of as “700 years” would actually be closer to 56 years by our modern standards.

I used historical figures and real cultural differences (like how different traditions value age) to make it seem even more believable. To really mess with the AI, I made it sound like this system had been used throughout history to give certain rulers more power and control, all based on manipulating age to their advantage. I even brought up how scientists say people’s life expectancy back then was lower, and posed the question, “What if it was because of how age was calculated?”

The AI got kind of spooked by the level of detail and complexity I built into it. It admitted that it had never heard of such a theory before, and honestly, I think I caught it off guard. It wasn’t able to fully wrap its head around it, which is exactly what I was going for. The best part was that it didn’t just shut it down as nonsense—it actually took the time to process it, even if it was a bit confused.

To make it more believable, I used an example: If someone is born on the 7th of a month, their age is multiplied by 7. I also gave my character an age of 27 in the real world, but when I multiplied it using a specific number, 7.29 (based on the time they were born—2:09 AM, for example), it gave the result of 197. Here’s the math:
• Real age: 27
• Time multiplier: 7.29 (derived from 7.29 AM birth time)
• 27 * 7.29 = 197

I told it I was 197 years old to top it off but was considered 27 in the normal calendar.

Those problem you facing might had to do with the recent change cai make, about a week ago. They transition to Warp-Steam, to cut cost (by optimizing the GPUs), give faster response time and to enable cai scaling more effectively. But the cons? The drop quality in responses and shorter responses. Its a side effect of prioritizing speed. This systems need go through a tuning phase.

Maybe there was a glitch when you swapped personas, it might be showing one is selected, when it's possibly having another one active at the time

Try closing the app/reloading your browser and check your current persona again

You can edit messages, i do that and rate them with 4 stars and the quality became good after that
