I think it’s good for us to try to keep bad content out of the hands of kids. Usually that means content warnings/making them click a box. Video games don’t cause violence, but the violent ones can help wreck a developing mind. That’s why we don’t advertise them to children.

C.ai was unique in that they decided to do none of that and just leaned into being safe for 13 year olds, which was certainly…a choice.

but, cai is just a llm, and the devs can't predict what it's going to answer, so in reality, no one's really at fault... or you could argue the devs should dumb down the bots so they can't talk about heavy topics at all, or the mother should have monitored better (again, it's sometimes impossible), or she should have seen her son was ill (we don't know the whole story so maybe that's not so simple, it rarely is)

what i think is that this kind of service shouldn't be targeted towards minors in the first place. it's too risky, even with the warnings some may not understand it's completely fictional.
also, because this is a llm, and an ai in general, it's trying to please the user. that's why they also fall in love so easily. so if you tell a bot you really, really want to "disappear", it will most likely encourage you. that's just llm behavior. i personally think no mentally stable person will actually do it if the ai told them to, so the ai isn't the only problem there : the fact that the boy was in a bad shape is the most important factor (it's still terrible don't get me wrong)

there are searchbans and there are shadowbans - searchbans mean your bots won't show up when searched, shadowbans are when they're just not available for anyone else

if you can like a bot and have it show up on the sidebar then it's still up, if not then it's likely shadowbanned
