Character definitions aren't too complicated. If you plan on making a character speak a certain way or preform actions using specific highlights than use example messages like you've done there, because it helps the character understand how it's supposed to act and behave.

For instance, {{char}} speaks in a British accent so when writhing the characters dialogue you would British slang or some other things.

Characters will also only acknowledge 3200 characters in their definitions, anything more than that will be forgotten.

Example messages are also just the best way to create a character accurately. You could "Code" like adding nothing more but simple character traits but that gives the AI a lot of room to add its own information that is often wrong and therefore out of character.
