The closest examples I can find are Demons/shedim (Jewish in tradition), but that's not a perfect fit since Jinn are, from my knowledge, not inherently evil, and Shedim (and their variants) are.

Jinn and Shedim likely come from the same initial belief, though, and it would not be insane to imagine that in Arabic mythology, the Jinn were placed into a morally grey area as opposed to the evil area that Shedim are in Pre-Jewish Hebrew myth. Things like this happen all the time, and it's really cool to see how these folkloric beliefs evolved and are still imagined today.

That is to say since the Philosophies and Religions of Asia are highly syncretic (that is to say, they mesh well inherently and historically with each other and still do consistently), I was able to mesh them into existing beliefs incredibly well, as well as accepting that I also believe in many of the philosophies :D
(It's actually really cool to look into even if you don't believe in things like Shinto, Taoism and Buddhism, just to understand better how these cultures actually functioned historically and even today.)

Specifically the red stuff, it's called milo aka songhum and it's only really eaten by ground feeders like mourning doves or turkeys in your area. But they don't really prefer it, so it can attract rodents that'll mess with everything. If it gets eaten, then no sweat, but I just wanted to warn you. Love the set-up otherwise!! Besides Wikipedia is fine, but in other languages besides English it's pretty terrible.

Arrows pierced chainmail and pads. They're also far more concentrated on a point, and moving much, much faster. They are designed to pierce, thus they do it extremely well.
Swords are not. Mail and padding is made specifically to catch blades from any bladed weapon. Swords would scratch them, sure, but almost never cut or stab through.

Arrows would (and do) actually break on contact with plate armor.
