Hello, I have a problem with starting Vencord

Just for testing purposes, I tried to do as you said so.

What I did:

• Open PowerShell and set the variable VENCORD_USER_DATA_DIR to my liking (ex. %appdata%/TestingCAN)
• I used the powershell command to run vencord installer, and chose graphical installer>
• I noticed on the first line, the variable was indeed set.
• I tried to install the vencord on canary
• Started the Canary and I saw that my settings was still there and not fresh.
• I also tried to do in clean install. Wiped everything including vencord folders. No luck there too

PS: I noticed that the folder I set, had a folder named dist but nothing else. Although, the Vencord folder was populated with my settings.

However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don't use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!

no one can control what happens on individual servers, depending on the community you're in some people might get pissy over it over ban you for it, that's nothing we can control

it stating in Discord's ToS that client modification is against the rules is simply an excuse to ban you in case you actually do anything ban with a client modification, it isn't a guarantee that you'll be terminated for having it,

as long as you stick to plugins in the vencords' menu, you will be fine

stories of people getting banned for using a client modification is because they legitemately used a client modification to abuse the API (such as self-bots, automated statuses etc), or they stupidly flexed a client modification in an official discord server, someone reported them and they got banned

discord are very much aware of client mods and have had the means to ban them for ages

if you open up a vanilla discord client you can find things like "betterdiscord", "powercord", etc. in the source code where they explicitly IGNORE them

if they wanted to ban them outright, why would they choose to ignore them instead? they can easily do so but choose not to because, in reality, the only people who actually care are trust and safety enforcing the terms of service, the engineers don't care at all as long as you aren't doing anything stupid

we've had interactions with discord staff members and it's been very positive when it comes from the engineers team, even to the point where one of them apologised for breaking one of the mobile mods (in a joking way of course)

so in the end, there is no risk

if there ever was, we would tell you and would either remove whatever is risky or stop developing the mod outright

Describe your issue with as much detail as possible.
What exactly did you try to do?
What did you expect to happen?
What happened instead?
Does this issue always happen, or only sometimes?
If possible, provide steps how to reproduce the issue
If appropriate, provide screenshots or screen recordings

For Vencord issues:

• If you are able to, run the /vencord-debug slash command
• If not, provide the following info:
  • How are you using Vencord? (Discord Desktop, Browser (name your browser!!), Vencord Desktop, ArmCord, ...)
  • What OS are you using?
• Open the DevTools with Ctrl + Shift + i (Cmd + Option + i on MacOs) and check the console tab for red error messages

For Installer issues:
