#ability to go to a low-power mode to prevent heat buildup while the quad is lost/stuck

@willow vortex Standby mode drops the RF power to 25mW, when the FC is disarmed.. Or do you mean, for it to drop to a pit mode power level? The issue in this case. Is not knowing how much of the heat is coming from the RF chip. And how much is actually coming from the image processor, which will still be running.
Yeah I mean for it to totally shut down and sleep, even if it stops transmitting altogether. Maybe something like disarmed for 2 min.
Nice idea
This is subjectable, me personally I don't want my vtx to shut down, lowering the power to 25mw is perfect. Reason what if you lost your quad and you need to see what it is facing or looking at? Your issue can be solved easily by installing a Pit Mode switch.🤔 🤓
True, but also even on 25mw the vtx will overheat due to the CPU doing all the work to compress/encode the video signal. It should be possible to keep the tx output (25mw) and shit down the image compression, maybe just a black screen, or 1 frame per sec or something. Although it’s nice to keep the transmitter on, it hurts itself.
Similarly the idea of keeping the power on to help find the model could also be augmented by a lost model alarm. All I’m saying is that it could be an option in the menu and then each person can choose what they want to do.
Agreed 👍 I the buzzers dont fit in my quads there is zero room for them. That's why I fly my local park and know it with my eyes closed. Everything fpv is give or take, I wish we could have it all but hey the way things going we might not have parts anyway.. Let us enjoy it while we can..
the big problem ist not only the TX, the videochip produce so much heat until the AU die. DJI is here much more intelligent, if overheating becomes dangerous they stop first recording and then the Videochip but send OSD information with low power out. This prevent of damage the Airunit, and would be fine if walksnail include the same funktion
Add a possibility of arm vtx as a mode in beta flight would probs sort this.
I would like to have minimum voltage setting to shutdown vtx completely
This is all solvable today by adding a $4 board to your quad and turn on/off power to your vtx via a radio switch.
