#Arrival pushback onto stand

Most of airports have direct-in stands (normal parking on stand). But some airports on some stand don't have this.

They use a different way of parking onto stand: aircraft initially approaches abeam the stand and passes it, then a tug is being connected and aircraft is towed onto stand and stands on it in opposite direction.

It might be per-stand customization option included in pushback routes or tug is connected and push automatically.

This would be really nice, it's also famously a thing in Dortmund https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=magVVjLEzWU

While at most airports, aircraft taxi into their position after they arrive and then they are pushed back before they start taxiing, at Dortmund it is the other way around.

Aircraft are "pushed-in" into the parking spot, and later on they just taxi out without the need for a push back.

It's kinda possible to do it with GSX but it's very convoluted and complicated, an easier way would be very appreciated

I need to ask a couple of things about this:

  • I assume this will never used if there's a jetway, correct ?

  • Is this procedure a permanent feature of that parking spot so, once flagged as using push-in to park, it will always be parked that way so, the "reversed" parking heading is in fact the only heading the airplane will end up serviced with ? Or the same parking spot can be used in both ways, with a "normal" heading (possibly with or without a pushback) and a reversed heading used only when this procedure is performed ?

  • What happens to regular pushbacks on departure when the airplane has been parked in the reversed heading because of a push-in ? Are they allowed ?

In EDLW, it is a permanent feature, as the tail clearence otherwise interferes with the ILS antennas.

Not sure how other airports, like in russia handle this.

EDDM got a few stands on the Apron 2/3 which are used both ways.

On stands 5-12 at EDLW, they taxi on arrival, onto the push in line - parallel to TWY M (to keep the main TWY clear) and then get pushed tail-in into the stand.

On the bottom right, you can see one of those walkways.

#

at EDDMs stands 341-349 both ways are possible.
CRJs and E-Jets often get pushed-in tail first. While bigger Airbus still could just normally park nose-in.

Ok, so that one at EDLW is not a real jetway. I was confused, because the default scenery has real jetways there.
