i'm really looking for a different type of extraction and something to compete with arc in the sci-fi theme kinda thing, instead of military focused hardcore shit extraction like tarkov i want something more casual

arc immediately got me sold after playing the tech test, 10/10 and will buy for sure, but i wanted to also see marathon be a good competition and probably a better game than arc with different things like first person, but it didn't really stand out i'm looking into 15 mins of pure marathon gameplay but it doesn't look or feel like a game i will play at all despite the underwhelming presnetation and execution of the game and the gameplay reveal

and as someone who absolutely loved the cycle frontier as well as destiny 2's gunplay, I see a lot of that and more in marathon right now

Can't be an MMO and be 40$ right now, especially in the saturated market of hero shooters.
It will have microtransactions.
The pve element feels like a second thought.
The art style feels oddly generic compared to most space blocky games.( They should have gone for something more quake/system shock. Modern system shock room design.)

Finally the elephant in the room. GTA 6. It's pushing it's release earlier because no game can compete with gta6. Marathon is going to be rushed and is not going to be given the chance to blossom into an MMO because gta6 will take away most it's mass multiplayer audience.

I'm not happy that another game is flopping. But it's hard to be optimistic with the current way most AAA game studio releases have gone.

Seems like marathon's lack of narrative/story is a red flag for players who've play tested the game so far. It's unfortunate that it just ends up being a game with objectives and no story behind anything

People have only been playing the alpha version of the game that is focused on testing the core gameplay loop first and foremost, so obviously there's no major story stuff yet. Even then, there are narrative bits in the game already, which people are actually pointing out:

Loving the narrative so far. The faction quests are engaging, interesting, and really does a good job expanding the lore/world-building. Much better done than any other extraction shooter that I've played. I am excited for the future seasons and how the narrative/lore building can be expanded on.
