The problem that 2042 had is that it was too ambitious, adding more players made the game take a toll on cpu load, so probably they decided to sacrifice big destruction for more players

But that's my take, there's probably more to it

The game finally feels like a good battlefield game, maybe not the best, but it really is slowly building the blocks to success and I think one more year could really see it shine.

this is partially my speculation but based on a few things that went on with the publisher they had (my.games). Basically publisher forced the use of a launcher. Publisher failed to fix server issues after multiple years. so now they have a different publisher and are supposedly working on improving the servers with a big update at some point. And they are also working on migrating to steam. When will that happen idk
