nearly every game dev I see talking about this, that has games they made ftp, or included in charity bundles, don't meet both of these

if your game is ftp, then automatically this doesn't affect you no matter the game size

and even if you made money on it in the past, as long as you haven't made 200k in the last 12 months you also aren't affected

I mean you can pick up a decent Tig/Mig welder for about 400-500 (mid end) but tbh the cheaper ones also do a decent job along as they have the capability to match what gauge metal you're joining
Gas varies alot depending where you are
Over here an argon tank for personal use is like £190 but that's for the bottle too
The refills are like £60, rest goes on deposit for the bottle that you get back
Fittings are a pain as a decent pressure reg and connectors can be another £200
Then a mask and gauntlets can get a decent set for under £150

But if you just wanna play about
The ebay kits that run on those disposable bottles can be had as a set with everything for like £300 including gas
They're a little more limited on use
But they get the job done or are good for practicing

Sad news, the torch swivel has given out 😦 wondered why I started blowing through towards the end
All my gas was going in my lungs instead of the weld

But I'd say you can get a decent versatile kit for under 1k
Or you can go lower and get other bits as you need them
