The UK has fuses built into the outlets. the US only has circuits to see if any of the cables inside the wall are carrying too much voltage to trip the fuse. We don't have any of those for outlets.

It's actually kinda concerning. This right here literally cannot handle wall outlet voltage, if you plug in too much it can cause the plastic to melt and start a fire. Circuit won't break though so it can't tell what's happening outside the outlet lol
