Slightly off topic but Dragalia has an edge healer sort of. She’s a barrier healer technically except her shields come from converting her own hp into shield hp. It drops her hp to 30% and converts however much she had into barrier. Then her follow up skill heals herself and only herself back up. A little unwieldy at first but she shatters game balance. I doubt XIV is getting anything like that but yeah edge healers can happen.

Content in 14 is done on purpose. Expansion Launches are built the same way because 14 has a big story focus so as to not overload people on a expansion launch, those always start with the 5 leveling dungeons and 3 end game dungeons. and 2 Ex Trials. followed by in 2 weeks your normal raid when everyone who participated in expansion launch should be ready. and then 2 weeks later for your savage. This amount of wait gives people time to level their jobs and try out the new stuff jobs have and get accustomed. THEN the patches is when they start throwing the Extra stuff at us.

As much as I liked Role quests and how nicely they tied around msq, plus actually feeling like you're getting to play the role rather than random job (like the healers actually get to do healer things), I certainly enjoyed job quests waaay more. Further, even if we're "the leading master in xyz" it feels like a wasted opportunity to discover new things about the job/world/people by not having adventurous or 'master level' quests.

Like how cool would it be for say a BLM/SCH/etc. to explore Carteanu, Mhach, or other ruins/untouched locations and actuall go full science team on some ancient tome.
