Anyway, This iteration of Sage is not an FF tradition, and I don't feel like Yoshi-P's team is so married to a criteria of "it has to be from a past FF" that they wouldn't use Reaper to get around the problem of "we can't do Necromancer." There's also a few other thematic reasons I would say it could be Reaper, starting with the death symbolism connecting to the idea of the "end" and the apocalypse (Death rides a pale horse, etc) but also the general connection between scythes and lunar symbolism.

It's also worth noting that just because a job is based on or named Reaper, that doesn't mean the job is evil. The Grim Reaper is usually not evil to begin with, though Reaper-based enemies make a lot of appearances in FF.

That said, I haven't gotten a good look yet but, it does remind me at least of our favorite sky whale. And dickboy probably isn't clever enough to just name things as catchy alternatives. More or less, what if a Lunar <thing of choice> isn't necessarily a new thing, but a forgotten alternate of something else.
