If you're dying that much on DR that it's detrimental to your mettle needs: a) either it's day 1 and you're just learning it (fair), or you didn't learn the mechanics the first time, and you're still learning, and b) you're not getting it back in bozja with a very small time effort.

There is a difference in it.
I don't mind a grind at all, but don't punish players that doesn't have many hours to play. The best grind are short bursts of rewards, while you need many of them. Not a low chance and making the alternative frustrating because it costs too much valuable time.
If you can only do 1 raid per day because of time contstraints, you are done over 2 months when it becomes moot to do it, that is in par with the ARR/HW relics yes, but do we really have a choice now how players do it like the ARR/HW relics?
(And with the risk good players won't do it anymore when you are getting to it, stonewalling you as latecomer)
(And most players want a better weapon for sure, relic is the casual friendly weapon, but the ShB one is punishing casuals now.)
They are driving players away with this, not keep them subbed.

The choice there is with CE and Fates is no reasonable choice, because the drop rate is so low you can farm for a year and still don't have enough. (Or you are Gladstone Gander that is.)
So there is only one choice and that choice prevents you doing something else to make it less boring and frustrating.
I am almost the only one of my contacts that is doing the relic and my contacts in game aren't small either. (I know i will be forced to stop later on because i know there is no one left to play with me for it later that is what i am worring about. Unsync will never be an option unlike ARR and HW relics.)

I still remember the Pagos grind, when it still was current.
Huge difference is that the cap is level 80 now not level 60 when the HW relics were current.
HW relics current = keep all your skills.
ShB relics current = lose 1/3 to 1/2 of your skills because you are forced to do old content synced.
That annoys players, because why should you do old synced content in order to progress a new one?
Yes, the Anima relic did it too, but even back then Unsync for the ARR requirements was an option.
Relics are indeed grindy and that is supposed to be, but not by forcing players to do content that is more then 4 years old. It was ok, if they did a mix of SB and ShB 24-mans with a slightly lesser requirement (like 12 or so) or a higher drop rate for fates. (Around 20%)
