Her punishment then isn't a punishment that works on an irredeemable villain, but it is one that punishes a hero that has fallen.
Rather than be killed by Ardbert--freeing her from her guilt and self-loathing... she is spared.

I think it’s better than the normal trope for 2 reasons.
- Her reasons were honestly WAY more pure than those of her “nameless henchmen” which is almost never the case
- Ardbert saving her wasn’t absolving her of her sins, it was asking her to do something about it and aknowleging he lacked the will to strike her down
