I had a fun game yesterday. Watched my team die 2 times to the samurai LB. I just sit back and think welp some never learn. Good thing I noticed though is ninja lb seems to be more consistent. I hit someone at 49% and even though they healed to 72 after it actually worked and got my chain off.

No resource management whatsoever, dying instantly in the opener of the game, letting them just push to the end instead of pressing guard on the crystal, letting people dive deep into our backline with no punishment

Part of the problem for a lot of people is focusing too much on your teammates mistakes and not just playing the game
Tankless teams can still win
Just focus on what you can do, and don't tunnel onto people unnecessarily
i dont think roles are the same in pvp as in the main game
white mage seems to be fine as a dps of sorts
given their LB is a pure damage + CC with a self-buff on top

I definitely feel like WHM is the hardest job I've played so far. If you feel extremely confident in your abilities WHM is clearly working for me. I am FAST about rotating through targets and being predictive. There are probably easier crystal-worthy jobs.
Both seem to be good. The highest player on my server was #10 playing only paladin

I think the hardest matches is when its WHM + 4 dps, mostly ranged. You really need people in front of you to play effectively and not get tunneled down.

You aren't punished past zero stars, so you effectively are "guaranteed" to climb again at some point.

Good write. Nice of you to take the time from your experience to crystal. Most of it is spot on but sometimes things are out of your control such as a polymorph and instantly dead. But overall you bring up good points every player should know. And the tilt maybe you're right. I was uo 2 hours past my sleep cause I was raging so hard last night lol

ninja and sam will OHKO you through shield if parameter is met, reaper breaks your shield, monk breaks your shield, machinist drill ignores your shield

DRG can be such a huge tide turner in Frontlines
yeah but I've seen so many just dive into a team with ult and do nothing
able to safely approach big groups and initiate a big teamfight with advantage
its supposed to be followed up
yeah usually they have no follow up
but it does a lot of damage and they probably seem the best choice for melee dps
they cant by themselves, their AoEs are lines and are finnicky not to mention its very unsafe to be alone
but with a team behind

It really is, and sometimes those same players do well with other people. Not everyone syncs up perfectly, especially with how limited chat options are.
It's best to just focus on what you can do to help your team win personally, sometimes it's a lost cause but you can't let yourself get stuck in the mindset where you feel like your actions are pointless.

ninjas operate as roaming snipers against BH enemies who get too close, get clipped by some BLM/SCH/SMN spam

dragoons are good for chokepoints
you don't want to be the first one in though
no melee dps in frontlines can survive a dive into a ranged line
what you need is kinda trade potshots until your ranged whittles them down then the goon dives in

So it's me alive (sch) vs their rdm on crystal, everyone on my team is seconds away from respawning
Their rdm is on crystal and they just had whm respawning and I think warrior too
I have under 20k hp and 3k mp, I turn the corner and start potioning them I get the bright idea, cancel my elixir, run into the line of sight of the enemy, start elixiring
The rdm instantly dashes me and we win

freeze just seems too broken
99.9% of the time you will use freeze because it's busted, yes. There are niche scenarios where you can opt for fire and get value from it but honestly right now you could probably just remove it from your bar and be fine.

Today I've been paired thrice with the same SAM who has done 0 self heals and less than 100k damage in CC, I think its time to take a break

It's tricky because if you nerf freeze it could be useless. Maybe if they just nerf the overall damage and keep BLM as a CC job it could work

I was thinking more along the lines of diminishing returns at the simplest
like the blm themselves get a debuff to the next flare that reduces the duration of the freeze by half if they freeze but going away if they use fire flare
Freeze can be nerfed back to 8k levels as it was before

but once you play more, the exp will tell you to do it cause enemies about to one shot you

Honestly when youre cced you want to purify
Then if your opponents are smart theyll wait out your purify
At the very end of your purify buff be sure to guard cause theyll be hitting you with cc
Dont guard at all, be the one who forces enemy to guard

The biggest change from pve to pvp is everyone is responsible for their own health
You have two healers in your party? Cool. Don't expect them to clutch heal your ass at 10%

Reminder while elixirs are great, youre also putting yourself out of the fight for a good 6-10 seconds

so better just spend that good 6 secs or more to hide and recharge elixir

you'll be vulnerable and can't use guard
just make sure you have full elixir before using it
Its mostly a comment on when to elixir correctly
Sometimes you can still stay in the fight with like 4k mp and full hp for example
Elixiring between team fights can give you a major advantage though.
Frontline maps are also big enough that it's possible to elixir in plain sight and not get punished for it.

Can someone explain to me how it is possible that I manage to distract 2-3 players in CC for well over 10, sometimes 20 seconds, far off the objective, and my team doesnt even manage a single kill, let alone make them use their mana? after engaging 3 people, successfully dumping my whole kit, purifying their stun, healing back to full i put on my shield to back out and find out that my team has somehow traded 1 kill for 1 kill in a 4v2 and it's just like ????
I feel like the NIN version of that is successfully murdering your key target, looking around, and realizing you’re the only one left alive.
But the enemies are all under 50% and out of mana so it's time for the penta 
I hate being the only one pushing as NIN, I would really like to go back to roaming in their backline fishing for gank opportunities, that’s kind of my job.
You can use a macro to mark a character for death, but it's up to your team to act on it.

Yeah.
But in general, if someone ate a lot of damage and is low on MP, they become a priority target.
A 5v4 is a significant swing in tempo and can quickly snowball.
MCH and NIN LBs tend to be the most dangerous, the rest you can kind of play around
Anyone with a dangerous LB ready too.
DRG, SUM, SGE e.t.c.
Overextended tanks and melees tend to drop pretty quickly.
The duality of MCH seems to be being a sitting duck that needs teammates to peel, and having a button whose sole purpose is deleting someone from the fight, no questions asked

What's the general consensus on team value of a war vs sch. I ran into a war 3 times in a row who seemed to make it their life goal to glue themselves to my ass
As I played war before switching, I know their kill potential is actually pretty low
So I moved close enough to support the team with exped biolysis but also stayed far enough away that the war wouldn't be able to hit multiple targets with chaotic cyclone/primal rend if targeting me
Only one time of those 3 did my team actually throw any actual damage at the war to peel them off
I feel like my positioning nullified the warrior to a large deal, so I was a bit miffed that I couldn't get a little help considering I was still contributing to the fight with some big DoTs while keeping the warrior from getting any real value
Why focus on a tank that is effectively neutralized when you can nuke the DPS instead? Like, you had him neutered and on a leash, he was no real danger. You'd want to keep it that way instead of encouraging him to switch targets and potentially be more of a threat.

The other two, one they somehow they lost a 4v4 with me hitting multiple reci bio while their war was doing nothing but hitting me
The other they ran ahead chasing kills leaving me to push crystal while 1v1ing the war, but we won in the end by a decent margin

because it is seriously oppressive trying to do anything as an actual melee (i.e. not nin being a ranged caster or drg just jumping in once and dying)

Right on starting my first game of CC is a bad time to figure out that I still had my hotbar filled with all the actions from before the rework
At least it was still a casual match, but feels bad to drag down team while scrambling to get things onto hotbar
the problem isn't just one smn, it's when the enemy stacks like 5-6 of them and have them all megaflare at the same time because at that point it becomes almost unreactable due to how delayed the hit is compared to the attack itself being instant

Summoner has no disengage. If they're caught out and their Radiant Aegis can't save them, they're dead.
Is it irritating? Yes. But not unbeatable.
yeah, but if a smn is going out that far to megaflare without anyone backing them up that's their own fault
the problem is when they actually coordinate and get multiple people to do it all at once
because then you can end up suddenly dropping dead from 5-6 megaflares in a row, with no way of being able to stop it once it happens
which is made worse by the battle high mechanic potentially giving them even more damage on top of that
oh yeah, battle high, that's another thing that irritates me, because some jobs just go completely insane if they get it high enough, like mch being able to more or less instantly kill any non-tank with their lb if they get it high enough
it's a "win more" snowballing mechanic in a mode that really doesn't need it
It's to encourage people pressing the attack and remaining active rather than sitting on control points.
A coordinated team is going to win a lot of Frontline matches regardless of summoners

I played DNC and went from like no rank to silver 1 in 2 hours with no loss
imo everything but sam and gnb are great rn
gnb is weird and sam just doesn't have a niche that isn't filled better by the other melees
although being a good player heavily outweighs a good class
Sam, like warrior is good against bad players and bad against good ones
I mean you can say that about all classes but getting the big moneyshot Sam OHKO requires your opponents to hit you while your shield is up
Similarly for WAR to be able to get big team damage outside their LB requires the opposing team to position poorly for primal rend and bloodwhetting/chaotic
Dancer ain't great either, imo
Dancer's dps is a little low, but absolutely annoying with the ult
GNB is a bulkier DPS
And there are melee dps whom are bulkier
GNB can 100-0 people faster than MNK.
Well but like. DNC has low DPS for a reason

and also if it isnt 1 gcd you can react to it since gnb has absolutely no instant cc 
yeah gnb is still... not great compared to the other tanks, the lack of cc hurts it a lot more than you'd expect

My Frontline squad today had 11 scholars
One of the other factions had 10 summoners
We won 1600-400-300

One of the farthest big ices spawned
And 6 of us scholars made the commando run
To drop down on the ledge behind it
And we instantly melted 80% of maelstrom
whenever i see a scholar running at me i immediately make every effort to put them in a bad spot because i know what they're about to do
One moment they were there
Next moment they weren't
If you see a sch running at you just move away from the team
Schs are horrible at 1v1
Dumpster tier single target damage
If you see 4 scholars running towards you? Say your prayers 
No cc, no movement skills
If they blow their spread biolysis on you that's a good window for a teammate to cc them
well, sch and smn are probably both getting nerfed when they start making frontline-specific balance changes anyway, so

I've also seen a scarily coordinated group of machinist and ninja
In the beginning they just snipe whoever and the ninja gets free kills
But I saw them near the end of the match eliminate 3 bh5 summoner/whm
In the span of like 10 seconds
I'd see a caster on my team get a snipe targeter on them, instantly get stunned by air anchor and even if they purified the ninja was on them
which is why i also make it a point to try and help people who are clearly being targeted by more than one person unless it happens to be like, their entire team at once
Basically everything in groups or coordinated is deadly as all hell
no obviously premades is what's problematic and what square should remove next. Oh here's a 5 second buff to polymorph and it gives 30% extra damage on top of removing natural DR

removing premades would be awful
since that means that you wouldnt have any pvp mode to do with friends outside of customs which is 
although yeah job stacking could probably be punished with like
stacking damage down per job copy that you have up to 50% with like 6
and not taking effect with 2
I think punishing people for playing what they want to play is bad
cause then it just forces people to play bad classes in frontline since the quickest guns will just swap to the better classes
imagine how unfun it is to be forced to play dnc in frontlines once all the other pairs are taken

yes, that's bad, but what's also bad is allowing the current frontline status quo to continue as-is, it's unhealthy for the mode for it to be like this

And so the season ends with me in Bronze since I saw there was an achievement for finishing in Bronze. Although I just noticed there's achievements for every tier not just Bronze and Crystal. Now then, time to actually try and reach Crystal on MCH. Found the most success on it so far. Great at taking out the annoying casters in the back.
Melees other than Dragoon might actually be able to reasonably compete in Frontline now after the changes.
i'm personally more curious how whm got not one, but two bugged abilities from the changes, first it was the healing being infinite and then their polymorph causing frontline damage resists to get removed

The big nerf is how Gravity is now single target CC instead of aoe.
Spire is dumb enough on its own that you still want an ast on your team

I’m a little confused about people’s comments on Reddit about BLM fire is useless compared to ice. Superflare with AF3 does more than double damage what you get with UI3.
It takes time to do that damage
And 3 seconds of stun disrupts their burst and lets you easily have your team burst them
even in 1v1
the stun you get was much more valuable than the damage
since you could do night > freeze-flare > pot and just win if their purify wasnt up
but that isnt a thing anymore because of the nerf to the stun duration 
it was useless.
i think the balance between fire and ice is slightly now better, but not too sure yet.
I’m referring to how it has been since the major BLM nerf. Damage is damage and if the enemy team is low on MP that amount of damage can be devastating to their ability to survive or if they are already being CC’d
Remember it comes after 9k from the superflare. I tend to freeze them so I can combo into burst if possible but either way that damage has to be healed through and all of it is AOE too so it’s multiplicative. Draining an entire team’s MP during your LB can really come in handy
I don't feel like 1k damage per second is as much of a threat as SCH's 4.5k damage per second DoT.
The freeze nerf is super warranted though, since BLMs could lock down entire teams way too easily during heated fights over the crystal.
You still have to account for the 9k starting of the DOT though just remember.

The damage from superflare itself is based on the number of stacks on the enemy, the type of stack doesn’t matter.
yeah, type of stack just means side effect, and with this update the amount of stacks only majorly effects ice

yep superflare with freeze stacks also do 9k on hit
so you were really only comparing 12k damage over 12 seconds over 3 seconds hard cc
a lot of top blms rarely touched fire spells for this reason
even keeping the ice stacks on people was enough pressure that scared them from using purify incorrectly.

You can, though you still have to be kind of smart about it. Should have cooldowns up and heals up before you charge into a group. Need quick reflexes on the guard once you notice they try to focus you
well, better than before where whm could just casually delete your defense buffs and have everyone else kill you in a quarter's quarter of a second at least
If DOTs were so useless in pvp then red mage’s melee combo wouldn’t be so great. I don’t see a good reason for why 100%+ more potency is so useless besides “DOT lol”. Especially since people are saving their purify for it. Not saying that fire is better than ice, just that there are situations where more damage wins out
big difference is that rdm applies 3 dots very quickly
and the damage is/was obnoxious when you had their buffs active
and you'd simply get chunked even if you hit guard
and then you'd have a verflare waiting after you dropped guard
the deep freeze incident blm was obnoxiously strong cause you could burn someone's defensive utility at will, if not confirm a kill instantly + dealing decent damage, and generally being able to disrupt coordinated bursts
im not a blm player so there were prob use cases for fire, but they weren't extensive when ice spells were so disgusting
Rdms dot is 18k in total in damage that happens over 9 seconds
Almost double blms and also can be buffed by frazzle and corps de corps
You can get over 22k damage in over 9 seconds of dot lmao

Also see how nin and sch can apply their dot
Both of them only waste one gcd cast to use their aoe dots
I wasn’t saying RDM didn’t have the better DOT, although that’s not a fair comparison since RDM’s dot is on a longer cooldown and BLM’s DOT can very easily be applied to multiple opponents during your very frequent LBs
Once again not saying that fire is better than ice as well, just being misinterpreted a little I think. It’s still a fact that fire superflare does more than double damage
well it's the fact that you're saying that if dots are so bad why is rdm melee combo not bad when it does like 18k dot tick 
and people arent saving purify for superflare
they're saving it for any stun for the most part
That was a response to the general consensus I was getting earlier “12k damage? Yeah but it’s a DOT”. Which is not far below RDM’s busted DOT
Also someone said earlier that deep freeze is so good that people are not gonna purify until it activates if they get ice stacks. So if you have an idea that the team is holding purifies or whatever players your targeting have purify maybe that extra damage is worth it to drain their MP
rdm dot is 18k on top of it being buffed by 10% from corps and 10% on top of that from frazzle
and also the initial hits themselves doing pretty good damage

you're saying it's close to it, which with all that rdm has just isnt the case, especially with hard cc being better than dot
i gonna call it, this frontline change is worst one yet after 4.0 change
it's the simple fact that you just have a better option with blm
and using their purifies means that you can just cc them again

What are melees finally usable?
become too tanky
even with the change i dont see any reason to fire unless you're specifically trying to kill a war in lb
lets say mch snipe lb only deal 15600 dmg
summoner bahamut deathflare is only like 6k
atleast it isnt all smns 
it become all sam instead
It’s very good when your team is focusing down a tank and CCs are already going off
sam is a lot more fun to deal with than smn
apparently sam lb can still 1 shot ppl

before patch if you see sam int into your alliance you can assume that sam have lb
drg is probably better anyway since you horrid roar and just cant die
If they are waiting for their team to come back fire can kill them faster

and drg problem is just dont have enough dmg
if you have even 1 teammate the cc is more impactful
the dot just isnt potent enough to warrant a use for it
12k over 12sec is just too long
at this point range is almost useless since become glass cannon and hit like wet paper in frontline
Thing is, youre wasting your superflare for a mediocore 12k damage dot
Over a stun which could burn purifys or even chain stun that leads to a kill
or just the stun in general leads to a kill
