someone who spammed 300 games to get into gold at is struggling at 1300 is considered a better player than some diamond player climbing late at 1000

depends on mode.in frontline i just get up front and be as annoying as possible for enemy team.usualy i bully enemy healers with weapon throw holmgang and stuns and burst them with cleaves to initimidate them.But also as tank in frontlines you can try bodyblock enemies to let your bh5 dps get away by trygint to redirect agro and ccing them.

In feast with tank its complicated.you need to migitate when needed.but also you need to put pressure on their dps if they trying to burst someone on your team.At the same time you might need to stun their healer so your team can burst.or force them out of los so they cant heal the member your team is bursting down.ideally though the healer disables their healer for burst so you can keep your stun for when the burst starts on enemy so they cant getaway.

Yeah I've been trying to learn (started as a Healer which is a mistake but no turning back now LOL) but getting pass Bronze has been challenging. I'm worried how PvP will be revamped in 6.0 because I recall them saying they'll shut down Feast for a while to experiment a new PvP format? Yes it's looking like Feast will be taking a back seat to the new mode whenever it releases. It's going to play quite differently, but PvP is still PvP. I'm sure some skills you learn would transfer over.

Almost to Gold in Feast and I have to say there's only two kinds of teams in this game. Teams with people who know how to CC the healer for kill attempts and win and those who don't and never kill anything . The games are so lopsided its insane honestly I just feel more lucky than accomplished

that comes with time / game knowledge. especially playing other jobs so you can see what can kill you and what youre safe to engage on

also knowing what the sound/look of certain abilities are so you know when its safe

having ranged skills help a lot, having multiple mobility skills helps a lot

You also don’t always HAVE to jump on. Melee combo an enemy that overextended then use the burst combo “finisher plus normal casts” on an enemy you may have wanted to “jump in” for

Look at the jobs before you jump in. Are there stuns? Silences? Sleep? Heavy? Bind? Can you jump out safe? Why are you even jumping in? Can you secure the kill by using your abilities as CC and jumping out instantly and instead casting

i could not for the life of me find any setting that allow to cast on cursor or quick cast it

• A community event for Frontline (FL) large scale PvP mode (72man).
• Special "sync" queue method used to put all event participants in same match.

• Players who have at least some experience in FL and want to try something different.
• Players willing to cooperate and play according to the special rules.

What special rules?
• Team split into three groups, Parties A, B and C.
• Party A mainly focuses on the left lane (starting from base) and Party C focuses right.
• Party B will focus on the middle platform and supporting the two lanes.

What are the rewards?
• Three Fantasias, one each for three participants.
• Submit a screenshot of a WINNING game to be entered into a raffle!

Hi, how would one go around playing samurai on frontlines? the guide i see are about feast, and one about their burst

pretty similar except you have to be more carfeul as you can be bursted down quicker

As melee in frontline you should focus farm ranged in fights for easy BH unless there is an easy healer kill.but you will need some cc help usually to get the healer.bloodbath is a must have for large fights.while feint us good for burst you might want to consider a combo of bloodbath and whatever the name of that other skill is that makes you immune to stun,silence etc.i also recommend using your dash attack for disengage.

Black mage is kinda broken in PvP.it did get a nerf recently but it was more of a meme nerf.the issue with range in frontline is if you're tanks and melees suck it's very hard for you to get away with big aoe casts.black mage has stupidly op aoe damage and your sleep spell works really well to set up your aoe lb.i don't play bard myself but usually on my monk or warrior I just see bards as free battle high for me.

Also if you aren't using pelotin on ranged physical in frontline you are playing them wrong.that move speed buff is so rediculously strong for team fights.

It's a good skill but frontline is large team orientated.pelotin is Good for party disengage.running over enemy GCS and for pressing faster to denying enemy an objective.

Concentrate only helps you.

Foot graze is great for the heavy as again it benefits whole team.really good for catching healers

Think about it this way.pelotin helps your melee dps and tanks get in on the enemy GC faster which also benefits you as ranged.

Some people use bind but it's kind of a double-edged sword because you are basically holmganging an enemy but you are a bard.you are locking yourself down and leaving yourself open to be bursted.

Collars are for weapon trade only

So you get certain numbers for finishing at different ranks

There is a breakdown online of point thresholds you need to have a chance to qualify for each rank/tier

When you hit a certain point threshold you will get access to a qualifier for next tier.

You need to win 3 out of the next 5 matches to go up to next tier

If you don't then you must play another match and still have the required number of points to try qualifier again.

Also each weapon requires 10 wolf mark collars.

You can only get 10 wolf mark collars by placing in top 10.

yeah its not bad. its still a good job but it cant really benefit from BB like other jobs and in large scale modes where you dont have a healer / cant trust a healer that makes it a lot less safe

honestly i find nin to be super fun in RW. since it isn't 3 blobs coming from all sides, instead it's 2 teams facing off, you can play really stealthy and pick people off with hide, TA, silence, etc

PvP is good. But make your own opinion like PV said above. Make sure you check out the guides, ask questions and have a student mentality.

You’re going to lose a lot. Especially when you’re new. And sometimes you won’t know why you lost or why you aren’t performing well. The fun comes in improving and farming people

I know this is a kind of vague question, but if these were my "rankings" in a frontline match, does this mean I definitely am pretty good at it, or could it have been a fluke?
As a PLD, I had #4 kills in the match, #4 damage dealt, #1 damage taken yet only 3 deaths.

(For actual numbers, 10/3/27, 395k damage dealt, 350k damage taken, 230k hp restored, 6 occupations.)

I ask because this could be a classic case like you hear in overwatch where it's like "I have gold damage so I'm doing my job!" but it doesn't actually mean it.

It's not that you can't but like most PvP games if you're performing that well then you probably have the basics down. For anything more a VOD would be ideal, or ask about specific scenarios

But if you're performing well and not feeding then the basics guides won't help too much. Beyond that it comes down to talking to other PvP players to find little things you can do and learn or ask questions about specific interactions

One thing to keep in mind is that Frontline is very difficult to "carry" as any role

RW imo has the most solo carry potential. Killing mechs and putting up pressure is huge

I'm interested in learning a bit more about PvP. I've done my daily frontlines, usually as a job I"m still leveling, but would like to get into Feast. Are the jobs still reasonably well balanced there (I'd like to play as AST since it's my main job)? Are there job specific guides I should look up?

All the jobs are okay in Feast. DRK is the only one considered to be far below the others but it can still work.

RDM is another one that you should avoid if new since it requires you to go into melee range which is scary as a new ranged DPS that may struggle to read the battle.

Good luck! Keep in mind that we're a month into the ranked season already. The later the season, the harder pops are for low ranks. Especially if you aren't playing healer

I started doing daily frontline yesterday for glam, but found myself actually having fun with PvP for the third time in my life (the other two being Team Fortress 2 and specifically the now-defunct Dominion game mode in League)... which is strange, but made me happy.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm doing in there.

...also the glam is good.

I've been playing AST for dailies since I want to level the batard, and otherwise DNC and GNB... though I will say I don't exactly "feel" Dancer, and have issues with melee.

In PvE I am a White Mage main, so I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

1. Are you supposed to cast Dreadwyrm Trance in an opener? This effectively wastes Tri-Disaster DoT, but does have its upsides.

2. When to use Energy Drain instead of Ruin? Should you try to always stay at 2 Aetherflow stacks?

I think it's best to delay Firebird Trance until movement is required... but maybe not?

Make sure you dont just use midare for dmg. Shinten is 1200 potency, Soten is 1600 2 shinten almost match a midare and its instant cast

shoha > shinten is good burst and doesnt require you to stand still. midare someone close to you > dash in (hit them for 1600 potency) > kaeish>shinten and roll gcds

shoha for extra dmg when appropriate

only use dash to engage if you notice the enemy already used scary CC (holmgang, sleep, bind, heavy)

if you're not confident in quickly identifying CC potential and udnerstanding it went off due to sound or visual then save your dash to get out

but really with FL/RW you have a lot more freedom to chain things however you see fit. so dont get into the mindset of "i HAVE to do it for maximum burst"

NP. Yeah timezones are important in FFXIV. You might struggle to even find PFs for extreme, savage and ultimate if you cant play during more active hours

Ya it's a common question. All jobs are viable but drk is the weakest and at high levels puts you at a disadvantage vs any other tank.

Rdm is a similar situation.

Mch is debated on whether it's really good or not

You can cc two player and still be able to focus a target to burst it while being able to heal over pressure

Yes. All tanks have a spammable cooldown that helps

PLD: 20% dmg reduction, 30% when paired with Rampart
WAR: 10% dmg reduction, 100% of dmg dealt as healing (on the WAR and the target)
GNB: (Weakest) 3k potency heal plus regen

All tanks have sustain and regen mana (if the job needs it)

DRK brings those tools (which other tanks have) while other tanks bring the same tools + others. IE: Holmgang, Inner Chaos / Cyclone (DMG up), IR (CC immune. pairs great with Nascant), Confiteor (AoE nuke + lowers targets dmg dealt and healing potency by 10%) Hallowed Ground, good buffs/debbuff/ AoE CC in GNB along with great burst (Lightning shot)

Again drk is playable. But it is the weakest of the tanks.

RDM requires you go into melee range to burst. That by itself is a big reason it isn't favourable to new players because many will just jump in randomly and die. Even a high level player dies sometimes though and RDM is HEAVILY punished for dying (lost white and black mana)

Again. All jobs can be playable. But there are reasons these are considered lower on the tier list.

RE: At this point: Harder makes it bad? not necessarily the case here but in every competitive game ease is also a factor since consistency = higher placed on tier list

The big benefit to drk is the faster burst with edge spam since it's 1k potency each. Another knock on DRK: if you mistime TBN you're punished by not getting a free edge on top of the regular punishment all tanks receive of not helping your healer through a burst

i noticed i play with a lot of 80s, im only 73. and feels like im just tickling enemies while i get blasted in 3 seconds

All stats are normalized. Do you know your burst? Or are you bursting into defensives?

yeah that comes with experience. remember in fl/rw you can be more free form with your burst so dont feel like you have to perform everything "the right way"

all tanks are fine but warrior is just so far ahead of the rest and lots of people are playing drk after the buff. pld hallowed is also a good tool to bait bursts (and a nice safety net when new)

so yeah gnb is just hard to play. but its aoe cc is strong

If you do that only you’d be pretty effective yeah. Of course aim to do more as you get more comfortable

But doing that basic engage of AoE CC ensures you’re giving at least some value to the win

Yeah basically figure out what heals and try to maximize it so you soak up as much dmg as possible

I personally always play as if I have no healer. But I also normally solo or take new players with me so I usually have no healer or a new healer

If you play to be self sufficient you’ll be an asset and any heals you get will let you push that little harder

If you mean for achievements we had some LP foe achievements in revival. It’s on hold because feast season took all the attention. Bringing it back eventually

• keep your map open
• stay with the group
• follow callouts if there are any going on
• don't try to solo, you'll get ganked
• keep an eye on points and maintain leads by picking off 2nd place (to prevent them from farming Battle Highs) or attack first place
• make sure you're attacking the right color when you're planning to pincer or make a move to change the score

Today is Onsal mode, so points to keep in mind:

• fight on the nodes, this makes it harder for the enemy team to try and capture the nodes. If you're fighting, but aren't on the node, their backline will cap and your efforts will be wasted
• don't stay at mid for too long. If there are other high priority nodes nearby, fight for those nodes instead
• pay attention to the map. If nodes are spawning near where 1st or 2nd place spawn locations are, you'll need to double time it to those nodes and attempt to prevent them from capturing them

yeah, I'm just noticing that I run in for a second, then I get hit twice, then thirty times, and that's that

It feels a bit chaotic, but I assume that's because I'm playing on Onsal and Onsal seems chaotic

that and its chaotic until you learn to recognize things quickly. by sound, visuals or just a quick scan of field

with time you'll identify potential cc quickly and can tell when they're used

(also when someone clearly doesnt know how to play so they're free food lol)

You can charge in, get a few hits yourself, then run back to your healer. If you stay out too long, you become a sitting duck for the rest of the enemy team to gank you.

If they're retreating, by all means press the advantage for as long as it's safe to do so, but also be aware of your surroundings so that you aren't getting attacked by yhe second enemy team

I've solo healed before, it's very rare to get 1st

But at least it was a bit of a change of pace trying to heal 23 dudes

For frontline? That is a safe way to play yeah. I wouldn't use aoe gcds unless you need the heals from blood

It's oversimplified but it gets the job done well enough
