Recall Piety. WHM does not need a lot of Piety...like at all. Dropping Piety/lulwhocares stat for a Crit/Det piece when you do not drop a lot of Mind is a common strategy that just is not implemented for accessories this tier...but the cane is fair game.

However if you look a little more carefully, some BiS DO have the Diamond Cane in BiS. This is mainly because if you need more Piety, the best place to get it back is on your Cane since you gain Weapon Damage in addition to Mind, rather than simply swapping stats, like with gloves. There is also some fancy math with Determination but do not worry about that...it just involves stat tiering.

In terms of BiS, just follow the BiS. If you need more Piety because you pug sloppily, or your group is below par, or you yourself are below par, go ahead and swap the Tome for Diamond.

In terms of gearing up, Tome BiS is a lot more of an investment than the Diamond Cane in some cases, sometimes the reverse. Just get whichever one is quicker to get without cucking you too much in the future.
