it's easier to answer what made FRU bad in this situation I think, after TOP and DSR my definition of ultimate became a fight where the devs don't pull their punches, and FRU was nothing but pulling punches between really lax mitigation checks, mechanics that let you get away with way too much, and obviously picto existing although the dps check would still have been quite easy without it

but my general definition of what makes a fight good difficulty notwithstanding mostly comes down to novelty and lack of boring repetition of tutorialized mechanics

oh and pacing, doing nothing for 30 seconds between mechanics sucks, that's a big part of why I liked 8 so much
