While retainer gear does affect retainer returns, it's not to the point where you need to have (current) top-ilevel gear. There's an effective cap, although I'm not sure where that cap is at the moment. Probably around 560 or 570 though.

Hi everyone. I have a question about the Crystalline Conflict. Despite the scaling, does it make a difference whether I use a lvl 40 or a max lvl char. I've participated in it about 20 times with my lvl 38 warrior and compared to the others I'm doing rather poorly in the statistics although I have the feeling that I have understood the PVP skills and the game mechanics. I wonder if it's my skill or the equipment difference.

Major patches usually come in two parts. For example, 6.2 will add new main story quests, new raids, and a new trial/extreme trial. 6.25, which should be coming two months later, will add other updates like some side story quests, relic weapons, and the new Island Sanctuary feature. There are sometimes smaller incremental patches that add small things that wouldn't fit elsewhere. Such as the most recent patch, 6.18, adding the Data Center travel system.
