If I'm leveling a retainer I usually pick Field Expedition before I log out. You can earn more EXP with Quicks over the same amount of time, but you have to be logged in to do it, so it's better passive experience. Other than that, it really depends on what you want the retainer to bring back.

That shouldn’t happen if there’s at least one person missing. Only thing it might be is if both slots filled right before you left too. Otherwise I haven’t a clue.

No, it's like it always is. I can check them to re-invert my controls, but then next time I restart my game, the problem is fixed but now those boxes are checked, so now the controls are inverted but "for real" if that makes sense.

You'll have that, you'll have the Alliance Raids once you get through Crystal Tower, which the patch quests will make you do anyway, you'll have Normal Raids once you get through Heavensward and clear the Alexander raids (because Bahamut isn't included), you'll have the 50/60/70/80 roulette once you clear/unlock enough of those dungeons
you'll have Wondrous Tails eventually, you'll get bonus poetics if anyone else in your party is clearing the thing you're doing for the first time
and you get poetics just by doing the content itself, whether or not you're getting roulette bonuses or first-time bonuses

To be fair, Holminster Switch is notorious for being ugly to w2w, especially the first pull, if people aren't on their collective game.
It's not impossible or overly arduous, by any means, but it can go south really quickly if either T or H lapse in attention or aren't familiar with their kit.
So if your tank isn't cycling through their mits well, or thinks that invulns should never be used in trash pulls, or if your DPS is low and you have to extend healing/mits duration.....

Overheal can be kind of deceptive. Think of it less as trying to keep your overheal down and more as not pressing any healing buttons you don't need to. For example, in casual content where there's barely any damage I might use whispering dawn just to heal the tank, but that generates a ton of overheal on my party members who are topped up. If I didn't use it just because it overhealed though, then I'd be not making use of free healing.

You can quite literally oneshot bosses if you’re buffed up enough at level 90, haha
But yeah as soon as 60 can you solo (certain) 50 dungeons and ex bosses.
You’ll need a little more than 60 for some bosses, since some have special mobs that need a higher DPS output to beat the mechanics of but yeah it’s pretty easy goings

Arcanist can get a little confusing early on since they bombard you with new abilities at the lower levels.
But on the upside they do have a pretty complete kit by level 30 compared to other jobs. 🙂

Summoner (the job Arcanist evolves into) is probably one of the easiest and well flowing jobs in the game

All jobs will feel a little clunky both because of the slow global cooldown and how abilities register in this game. The latter can take some time to get used to, the former will improve at later levels when you get more abilities you can 'weave' in between.

Arcanist early on also involves a lot of standing still and casting while later on almost your entire kit will be instant cast. So that'll definitely improve.

Playing a little bit of the other tanks can help ease into gunbreaker.
Starting a new role at 60 with a full kit of abilities can be a little overwhelming if you have nothing to compare it to. 😄
