Yeah, even if you only do MSQ you'll be ahead for a good while until it catches back up around the 45 range. And then from level 50 onwards you'll always be 5-10 levels ahead if you don't do alt jobs.

Poetic tomestone gear is the strongest gear available for the expansion in which you gain access to it. I.e. Augmented Ironworks gear is the strongest level 50 gear, Shire is the strongest level 60, Scaven for level 70, etc. They are each outclassed by the gear in subsequent expansions, so if you are finding gear on the marketboard better stat-wise than the current tomestone gear you have, it's because that gear is for a prior expansion.

The reason you get them for Poetics is because once a new expansion comes out, all the gear for the previous expansion are considered catch-up gear, and the devs want people to be able to catch up easily.
Same reason that once a new tier of Tomestone gear comes out, the Astronomy tomestones will lose their weekly cap.

i think there are still one or two abilities for scholar which depend on your fairies positioning
but they've made some of the old ones, cast as if it comes from you, not the pet

So you personally are doing less damage because Sam/Blm have nothing they're giving you, you don't have partner buff helping you, and your entire burst is happening outside of Tech Finish.
