Late, but you can shorten it a tiny bit by doing some parts simultaneously (namely the books and the dungeons for the second to last step with the 4 quests). And you don't have to actively be working on a relic weapon to get daily alexandrite maps. But the rest of it is just hell again.

It’s just a matter of inputting your actions quickly within a specific time frame on controller. So like, take the Moon Flute Opener. You have 15s to input all of the appropriate actions within Waxing Nocturne before you go into Waning Nocturne. Within 15s on controller a ground target AoE can eat up your time.

So, the reason you cannot fly until the end of ARR is because flying was not in the original game. It was only introduced in the Heavensward expansion and was not retroactive. The system to attain flying in any zone from HW onward involved a combination of MSQ completion in each zone, completing a small set of sidequests in each zone, and exploration of various waymarks in each zone.

Since ARR had none of these, it simply wasn't considered for those areas, up until just about the end of the patch content for Shadowbringers. Doing so meant a pretty intensive map overhaul from a developer standpoint; and since they didn't really care to add in the aether currents or create quests for exiting players to have to go back and do, they simply made the requirement for those zones "complete the base campaign".

There's jobbars plugin which tracks party members' cooldowns
Doesn't cover being in range though afaik
