All right, so. When I use the Scimitar—as in when I plugged it in and let the computer do the default driver install and mapped nothing else—it immediately treated the mouse numpad as the number line.
So when I press the 1 button on the mouse, the game tries to activate the skill I've mapped to unmodified 1.
In this case I'm on Warrior, so it tries to use Heavy Swing.
