Yes and yes, you can usually only weave a pot and nothing else in a gcd, it also doesn't queue afaik so it's best used around a quarter/third of the gcd running.
And as for gap closers I've done it a few times on RDM but it's far from reliable for me xd

I've grinded through ARR, and completed the Heavensward story. It took me close to 200 hours and took me five attempts in total. I wholeheartedly think the story is well written, but reading a lot of dialogues is usually not my cup of tea, and I loose focus fast even if I try really hard to concentrate.
Usually, I don't play games I don't like for 200 hours. But saying I don't like FFXIV isn't the full truth. I **hated **the questing, but I **loved **the dungeons. I actually spend a good time on three different jobs just to do more dungeons before I inevitably reached the MSQ level again.
Whenever I hear someone putting "Story-Skip" in their mouth, there is a massive flood of comments suggesting that the story is the biggest part of FFXIV. Now I do wonder: Is that really the case? Is FFXIV just about the story, and skipping that is skipping FFXIV?
Are the dungeons and raids just a nice little add on to the core gameplay? Or is there actually more to it? How is the reward structure, what do players do on a daily / weekly basis when they have done the story?

It's really feast of famine and needs team support to peel for you. Hang back, fling spells and mainly aim for ice spells to chain CC people with the freeze. Be ready to teleport away at a moments notice and try to time the sleep if possible. People know a blm that goes unchecked can be a monster so it really needs someone protecting it

For endgame, you can do the following (for combat jobs)
Casual:
- level other jobs
- do endgame roulette, get endgame tomestone, get gear
- do alliance raid, some tomestone, some other gear
- do normal raid, some tomestone, some other other gear
- treasure hunting
- open world hunt party
Semi casual:
- do ex trial for weapons and mounts
Not so casual:
- savage raid for gearing (not the same gear as tomestone, Alliance, or normal raid. They look like normal raid gear, but savage dropped gear has much better stat)
- ultimate raid for challenge. Reward very unique weapon. This is mainly for self challenge, and bragging rights if you cleared it
If you genuinely don't click with the story, that's fine too

FFXIV is not just story. there are plenty of people who play the game solely for raiding or even crafting/gathering. if you don't care about the story then feel free to skip but you can't buy a skip for the full story. you still have to do the current expac's stories
but being someone who plays solely to enjoy the dungeons/raids, hell even pvp, is perfectly fine
this is still very much an MMO

Does the way the story is presented change over the expansions? ARR and Heavensward were alot of running and talking, rarely voice acted. While I rarely play story driven games, I can stand to play them if delivered in a way that goes beyond dialogue boxes

You would have done this in the past for Bard because its kit got more effective the more dots were in play. But generally, no, the time you spend setting up dots on multiple targets (especially Bard because we have two, and no easy spread-dots skill) is time you could be spamming AoE damage and killing the pack.

I was playing the trial for the game during the lockdown periods. I managed to log roughly 300 hours into the game and really enjoyed it. I managed to make my way into Heavensward but haven't finished it yet. I had to stop playing due to some additional responsibilities that came my way, but now I have things a bit more under control I would like to continue playing. I am a bit nervous jumping back in on my trial account because my memory regarding the main story is a bit foggy, it was also a shame I had to quit during Heavenward as it was getting really interesting I recall. I also think I approached the game wrong (if that is even possible!) and not sure how to rectify. I really only focused on MSQ and the Golden Saucer. I never really stopped to do additional unlock quests, take the time to understand the story behind raids and dungeons, listen to the story for the classes/jobs I levelled or pick up any professions. I hope you don't mind but I just wanted to ask a few questions before hand to hopefully plan how to tackle these issues as it feels a little overwhelming at the moment! I am worried I am going to have to start all over and lose my 300 hours progress!
